The situation surrounding German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is very interesting. The 23-year-old is a long term reported target of Manchester United, while Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in him too.
Back in December, The Daily Telegraph‘s Mark Ogden reported that Manchester United are genuinely interested in the midfielder. He hasn’t played since August and is still nursing from injury.
Gundogan has a contract till 2015, but he is not willing to commit his future to Borussia Dortmund at the moment. Catalan newspaper ‘Sport’ reported in December that Gundogan has refused Borussia Dortmund’s latest renewal offer, with the club now apparently looking to sell him and make a profit.
There were reports from ‘El Confidential’ that Gundogan had already signed a pre-agreement with Real Madrid.
But it is Barcelona who have shown the strongest desire to sign him up. Reports emerged that Barcelona have held meetings with the player’s father, as they see him as an ideal replacement for club legend Xavi.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona’s head of the medical team, Dr. Richard Pruna, was in Germany this week to diagnose the medical problems of the midfielder.
He suffers from a strange spinal problem, but right now he is recovering slowly and has started light training with his team mates.
Well, Barcelona have shown enough support that should convince him to join for them, when a lucrative offer is presented next summer.
