Newcastle United have rejected a £10 million from Arsenal offer for star midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to reports from The Daily Mail.

Yohan Cabaye

The 27-year-old joined from French outfit Lille two years ago, and took no time to establish himself as not only one of the most highly rated central midfielders for his club but also the league. He has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park in the summer, with French clubs PSG and Monaco registering their interest in the Frenchman as well as the Premier League champions Manchester United.

Arsenal were linked with Cabaye last season but the deal didn’t materialize. The offer has been made on Monday, which is believed to have been turned down, as Toon owner Mike Ashley wants to force up the price, something nearer to £30 million for the French international.

Arsene Wenger, the Gunners manager and Ivan Gazidis, the chief executive of Arsenal, have come under backlash from the fans, after Arsenal’s 3-1 humiliating defeat at the hands of Aston Villa in the opening day of the season.

As per Gazidis, the club has the financial muscle to compete with European heavy weights in the transfer market, while it was reported extensively in the media that Wenger has been given a reported transfer war-chest of £70 million, but apart from Yaya Sanogo, a teenager coming on a free transfer, the Gunners have failed to land any big names.

It is understood that Wenger is under tremendous pressure to land new players. During this time of emergency tracheotomy, the Frenchman is looking to make late incursions to bolster the squad.

It is also understood that, the Gunners are weighing up a mammoth bid of £35 million for Swansea City duo Michu and Ashley Williams. While the Spaniard is valued at £25 million, it would take around £10 million more to wrap up a deal for Wales captain and defender Williams.
