Aleksandr Kokorin

Arsenal have agreed a fee to sign Dynamo striker Aleksandr Kokorin. Hang on, that is only a part of the story. The other half is little odd.

Usually what happens is when a club bid for a player – the other club accepts / rejects and the player sign a deal (transfer go through) / do not sign. But here is a type of deal, where the fee has been supposedly agreed, but the club will only sign the player if there is an injury crisis.

Confused? So am I.

Kokorin has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United over the past 12 months. His agent has spoken about the player’s desire to play in the Premier League on few occasions, while former Manchester United player Andrei Kanchelskis felt a move to Arsenal would be ideal for the Dynamo striker.

According to France Football, Arsenal have agreed a €6m deal with the club, but the move will only go through if Arsenal find themselves in an injury crisis.

Usually reliable, Get France Football has covered the story on twitter:

The deal basically makes no sense, if the report is true at all. The fee quoted here is highly justifiable but what if any Arsenal striker gets injured in Feb or in March? There’s no guarantee they’ll get injured only in December or January so that the transfer can go through. Sounds ridiculous, isn’t it?

Anyway, moving to the other major transfer story – Arsene Wenger is reportedly showing an interest in signing PSG’s highly rated midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The youngster has been angling a move away from the French club for sometime now, and this window could open up an opportunity for him. Wenger has made him a priority target and will try to sign him in the January transfer window.
