I didn’t get to watch the England U-21 Euro 2007 qualifying match against Moldova, and judging from the match report it’s a good thing I missed it.
The one highlight of the match (and perhaps one of the most ironic things to happen in an England setup) was Arsenal youngster Theo Walcott’s goal in the 3rd minute.
Arsenal fans will gloat and say that they knew all along, but the truth is it will be more ammo for Eriksson haters who first derided Sven for taking a player who hadn’t played a single game for Arsenal and then criticised him for not playing the forward in the World Cup.
Excellent cross by Baines, but it needed a quality finish and Walcott’s header will give Arsenal fans something to look forward to when the 17-year old finally turns out in Arsenal colours this season (fingers crossed).
Enjoy the video.
Disclaimer: I’m a United fan, but I know a good goal when I see it, and Walcott’s emergence as a striker will mean a lot for England’s chances in the next World Cup.
