Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Everton star Ross Barkley ahead of the clash between the two sides.

Roberto Martinez will take his men to north London as the Merseyside club will take on the Gunners in the Premier League clash on Saturday. The England international has been one of the star players for the Toffees.

Barkley has been attracting a lot of interest from top clubs in England. According to The Metro, Chelsea were planning to make a £50m bid in securing the star midfielder’s signature as Jose Mourinho wanted Everton star to bolster his midfield.

However, no deal took shape as the 21-year-old continued at Goodison Park, along with John Stones. The central defender was also a priority target for the former Real Madrid manager as he wanted him at Chelsea last summer.

Wenger is aware of the threat possessed by Everton midfielder and is aware of his special talent when Arsenal face the Merseyside club during the weekend.

“He has massive potential because he has a good combination of technical qualities and physical qualities,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.

“He has the absolute power of the modern player and he’s certainly one of the most promising. He’s 21 years old and is a regular player in the national team. Such an early run is always a special talent.”

According to Transfemarkt, Barkley’s deal with his current employers runs down in 2018. Everton need to tie him down to a new contract, which will see him get better wages. Should he decide to agree for an extension, it is best that Martinez’s side decide to cash in on him in the next summer transfer window.
