Arsenal are set to bring Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to the Emirates in the summer according to reports in a major Danish newspaper BT.

The 27 year old Dane who is the son of legendary Manchester United goalkeepr Peter Schmeichel has been tracked by a host of European giants over the past months. However it is believed that Arsene Wenger is desperate to fend off interests from AC Milan and Manchester City to bring Schmeichel to London in the summer.

Schmeichel’s contract is set to expire with Leicester in the summer and has been in superb form for the Championship club this campaign. The goalkeeper was also named in the PFA Championship Team of the year for a second consecutive team this season.

With Lukasz Fabianski looking increasingly likely to walk out of Emirates at the end of the season and Emiliano Viviano’s loan deal also coming to an end, Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in a quality backup under the sticks who can challenge first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny next campaign.

Schmiechel has made 45 appearances in the Championship but is now believed to finally test himself in the biggest of stages in England’s top tier football following his father’s footsteps.
