Having regrettably dropped out of the Premier League title race in recent weeks, Arsenal have joined a differing race – one for the signature of unsettled Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro.

The Brazil international has been used sparingly by Real manager Carlo Ancelotti this season, and according to Portuguese publication O Jogo, the prospect of a summer move is perfectly feasible, with Arsenal now joining the list of potential suitors for his signature.

The 22 year-old impressed from the bench in Dortmund on Tuesday evening, inspiring Los Blancos into the Champions League semi-finals and was later quoted by Marca as saying, “You’ll have to ask Ancelotti why I’m not playing more.”

Porto and Inter Milan have previously expressed an interest in acquiring Casemiro and will pose as competition for Arsenal. Porto are bracing themselves for the departure of midfielder Fernando, who is expected to move to Manchester City in the summer, while recently-installed Inter owner Erick Thohir is keen to oversee an overhaul of personnel.

Casemiro joined Real last year from Brasiliero Serie A side Sao Paulo and spent a year on loan at Real Madrid B before promotion to the first-team under Ancelotti, but has struggled for sufficient game-time in recent weeks.

Ancelotti prefers Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric and Angel Di Maria in the 4-3-3 system behind the potent attacking prowess of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and the imperious Cristiano Ronaldo.
