Newcastle United striker Joselu has revealed that he is happy with his current form.

The 28-year-old managed just four goals in the League last season and many Magpies fans would have been happy to see him leave the club during the summer transfer window.

The former Spain under 21 international however ended up staying put at St James Park.

He has so far fared decently this season and scored two goals from his four top-flight encounters played thus far.

Rafa Benitez’s side have however started the season in poor form. They have yet to win in the League this season and currently languish in 18th place on the standings after taking just one point from their four games played so far.

Joselu will be looking to add to his goals when the Magpies play against Arsenal next weekend.

His performances this season may also be vital if the Magpies are to avoid the drop.

Joselu said as reported by The Chronicle: “Of course I felt I needed to start well. We lost players and we had to sign players as well – and I think we signed players because the gaffer wants what is best for the club,”

“I think the players who have come in have tried to help us as soon as they can, and that’s a good point for Newcastle.”

“We will try to stay in the best position like last season, but we know how difficult it is. I think we have a good squad and we’ll try to do that.”

“Personally, it was very good [to score in the opening game] because for a striker to start the competition by scoring goals, it is very important.”

“People want the strikers to score goals; we do more things than only score, but I think personally for me it was very important.”
