Newcastle hopeful of re-signing Demba Ba

Recent reports are suggesting Newcastle are interested in resigning their former player Demba Ba.

The Chelsea striker left Newcastle during the January transfer window last season, but has so far failed to make much of an impact for the Europa League winners – scoring just six goals in 22 games.

Manager Jose Mourinho has hinted the Senegalese international could be sold this summer, but with no strikers coming in to Chelsea, his departure may be delayed.

Newcastle have needed a consistent goalscorer – with Papiss Cisse firing blanks for the side. Their pursuit for goals led them to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy on a season-long loan, and they were in the market for Aston Villa’s Darren Bent, before he chose to join Fulham.

Olympique Lyonnais striker Bafetimbi Gomis is also a target for the Magpies, but a deal to sign him has been on and off on multiple occasions.

Remy is the side’s only recruit this summer, and Newcastle supporters are calling for their manager Alan Pardew to find a solution to the side’s scoring woes. After two Premier League games, they are yet to ripple the net. Newcastle have only scored four goals from their last 10 Premier League games.

Demba Ba will more than likely fail to force his way in the first-team for the majority of the 2013/14 season, as Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has returned from a successful loan spell at league compatriots West Bromwich Albion – not to mention Andre Schurrle and Fernando Torres providing stiff competition for a starting place.

Newcastle are yet to put in an official bid for the 28-year old, but a season-long loan deal could well be on the cards with the transfer window fast running out.

Should an approach be made, it’s likely Chelsea will consider it as long as they can secure one of their own summer targets in the form of a striker in the next few days.
