The Welsh international joined the Spanish capital club from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013 and in his debut season, he won the Champions League and Copa del Rey with the La Liga giants.
Before his move to Real, United were also in the race in signing Bale and had outbid the 10-times European champions in securing his services. However, United lost out on the former Tottenham star, while Moyes was shown the exit door just 10 months into six years contract.
“When I got the job, I thought Gareth Bale would have been a super Manchester United player. I thought he had that look about him that you expect to see in Manchester United players,” the Manchester Evening News quoted Moyes as saying.
“He was someone we were really interested in but he had his heart set on Real Madrid,” he added.
Moyes failed to add more players to United’s squad during his time at Old Trafford as he managed to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton for a transfer fee of £27.5m. The Scot struggled to keep the 20-times English champions on top as they finished seventh in the league table.
Bale has still been linked with a move to Old Trafford, despite Real star and their president confirming the forward will continue his current employers.
