Micah Richards and his Manchester City training routine

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional footballer? Ever tried to understand the routine of a top flight footballer? If you have but still couldn’t catch hold of a comprehensive detail about the daily life of a footballer, you need not wait anymore. Here is the story of a footballer’s life as it happens, from one of the rising stars of English football: one Micah Richards.

Training at his club side Manchester City starts at 10 am everyday (except on matchdays obviously) and Richards presents himself punctually. He had of course had his breakfast at home but his eating habits are not what is generally associated with a rich footballer. A bowl of Frosties, Rice Krispies or Weetabix and the Manchester City right back is up and running literally on the Manchester City training ground.

The first thing he does at the club’s training ground, besides greeting his coaches, managers and team mates, is the regular stretch-up and the jogging with fitness coach Stefano Marrone, whose Italian food habits are certainly more pronounced than Richards’.

Being a defender, Richards has to commit himself to a different sort of training. While Manchester City midfielders are asked to travel up and down the pitch, defenders and attackers are expected to do short bursts since that is what they do most of the time in a course of a football match.

Then of course there’s the customary ball possession training session and the keep-ball game. The day is rounded off with a five-a-side game. That’s it; it’s over now. Quite easy, isn’t it?

But is it really so? Like Micah Richards and his Manchester City team mates, all professional footballers have to maintain their physique and work in the gym as well for a couple of hours every day. Then of course they have to check their eating habits and have a healthy diet since with a sound body, they wouldn’t be able to commit themselves during a football match.
