Arsenal have been dealt a massive injury blow as midfielder, Francis Coquelin has been ruled out of the Capital One Cup game against Tottenham Hotspurs.

Coquelin picked up a knee injury in the game against Chelsea and has failed to recover so far. The French defensive midfielder extended his knee after landing on it awkwardly.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the player is out of the Spurs clash and will recover soon.

Wenger said: “Francis Coquelin will be out and we have no major problems for anybody else. His knee is swollen and he is being assessed but we hope it is just a short term problem.

Coquelin has been integral to the Arsenal side since breaking into the first team picture in the second half of last season.

Losing him will be a big blow for Arsenal who are also without Jack Wilshere. Per Mertesacker is available after his injury layoff.

Arsenal will be hoping to secure safe passage into the next round against an improving Tottenham side. Pochettino has done well to add to his attacking options with the likes of Heung Min Son and will be hoping to take advantage of Arsenal’s midfield woes.
