Marouane Fellaini has declared himself fit from ankle injury and has returned to Manchester United after undergoing a successful rehabilitation in Belgium.

Fellaini was signed by former Manchester United manager David Moyes last season from Everton for a reported fee of £27.5m; however, he could hardly do any justice to his price-tag, failing to score a single goal (provided one assist) in 22 appearances.

Despite having enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign for Belgium, he faced an uncertain future under Louis van Gaal. His future was well speculated in the media, and he appeared to be heading towards Napoli, but his ankle injury put an end to any potential move.

Fellaini, however, dismissed such rumours saying he wasn’t told to leave the club, but was made aware of the tough competition for places he might face.

In an interview with Belgian newspaper Sportwereld, Fellaini said:

“I talked to Van Gaal, and he has never said that I had to leave. He said I had a lot of competition, but that I got the chance to prove it.”

Manchester United have had a stuttering start to their new campaign. The Red Devils are lying 12th in the table managing only five points from as many games.

With several players currently injured at the moment, Fellaini has a chance to impress his new manager and cement his position in the team.
