Former Italy international, Marco Amelia looks all set to move to Arsenal this summer. It appears that Amelia will be the second goalkeeper signing of the season for Arsene Wenger who is willing to let go of David Ospina.

Amelia joined Perugia earlier this year as a free agent and has now hinted that he could be on his way to Arsenal or Roma.

Speaking to Gianluca Di marzio, Amelia stated that he has signed a confidentiality agreement with Arsenal and will not be able to elaborate on the potential deal. Furthermore, he also stated that he would like to move to Roma and stay in Italy if possible.

“During negotiations, I signed the confidentiality agreement with Arsenal and so, I cannot say anything at the moment. I’m relatively young for a goalkeeper as I’m only 33 years old. I don’t know what future holds for me”, he said.

Offloading Ospina to bring in Amelia certainly makes sense as the Italian would demand less game time as compared to the Colombian, who is good enough to start for most sides in the Premier league.

Amelia is expected to be a back up for Petr Cech is undoubtedly the number one at Emirates now. Amelia’s transfer to Arsenal makes a lot of sense in terms of what the team needs and financially as well. If it were to happen, it would represent a very smart piece of business for Wenger.
