Manchester United’s move for Fabinho is good news for Tottenham

According to reports from Italy, Manchester United and AS Monaco have agreed a fee of €35m plus €5m in bonuses for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

Despite signing Paul Pogba from Juventus on a world record transfer fee, it seems Jose Mourinho is still looking to add more bodies in the middle of the park.

With Michael Carrick approaching the fag end of his career, United are looking at a player who can be his like for like replacement – someone who is imposing with a good passing ability.

Fabinho has been one of the key players for Monaco last season, and will no doubt add depth and quality to the United side.

United’s move for the Brazilian midfielder, however, brings good news to Tottenham Hotspur camp.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Spurs midfielder, Eric Dier, this summer, but surely the interest will die down if they sign Fabinho.

Spurs have reportedly demanded a fee in the north of £50 million for Dier, which forced United to look for options elsewhere. In that respect, Fabinho is a slightly cheaper alternative.

Dier has established himself as a key player for Spurs, but Mauricio Pochettino has used him mainly as a centre-back last season.

The England international would have been a superb addition to the United squad, but with the Red Devils shifting attention towards Fabinho, Spurs camp can let off a sigh of relief.
