Manchester United have launched a British transfer record bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, the SunSport reports.

The Red Devils’ initial offer is reported to be £48 million plus £12 million in add-on payments which adds up marginally more than the £59.7m transfer fee paid to sign the Argentine winger Angel di Maria in the summer of 2014, who never wanted a move to United and eventually moved to his preferred club, Paris Saint-Germain, the following summer.

Newly appointed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be a huge admirer of the French midfielder and sees him as the first piece of the jigsaw in the process of rebuilding the United squad.

The 23-year-old walked out of the Old Trafford outfit for free in 2012 in a very unpleasant fashion after growing frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities.

Then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson accused Pogba of ‘disrespecting Manchester United’ with his actions but the French powerhouse is reportedly excited about the prospect of working under Jose Mourinho and help the club reach the summit of English football once again.

Having won four straight Serie A titles, Pogba believes that life in Turin will fail to offer him new challenges henceforth and is willing to leave the club this summer.

Pogba is represented by the reputed football agent Mino Raiola, who will be listening to offers for him after leaving for France to represent his national side in the Euro 2016 this month.

Juventus will make efforts to keep hold of Pogba but are said to have resigned with the idea of losing Pogba this summer who is also being targeted by Chelsea, Manchester City and French champions Paris Saint Germain.

However, Man United remain favorites to bring the dynamic midfielder back to the Premier League and are hopeful of reaching an agreement before the start of the pre-season next month.
