bayern munichManchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the Red Devils should sign their long-term transfer target Toni Kroos.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has one year left on his contract and has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with their former manager David Moyes scouting the German international on multiple occasions.

However, recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid are now leading the race to seal the deal for Kroos. The former United star has admitted that he is a great fan of the German midfielder.

“I love watching Toni Kroos (pictured above). I think he’s brilliant. I love the way he controls the ball and controls games,” Scholes wrote in his Paddy Power blog.

“He can really play a pass and has superb vision. Kroos is capable of scoring goals too, from outside the box on either foot. I just wish Man United had signed him (Yes, it is good to see United bringing in new players, but they haven’t signed anything like the quality of Kroos).”

Kroos has also been a transfer target for United’s league rivals Chelsea and Barcelona. However, with recent reports suggesting the Champions League winners have reportedly agreed a deal with Bayern for the potential transfer of the midfielder to Real in the summer transfer window.

Despite praising Kroos, Scholes says Germany has few  weaknesses in their team in their defence. The retired England international believes Joachim Low side’s next opponent Algeria could take advantage of the German defence in Round of 16 clash of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“Joachim Löw’s strategy of using four centre-backs has managed to keep two clean sheets in the group games for Germany,” the Old Trafford favourite said.

” However, there are weaknessess in his team. He must be doing something right with more than 100 caps but Per Mertesacker is slow and cumbersome while at left-back the Shalke centre-half, Benedikt Höwedes, looks a little vulnerable.

“Mats Hummels is not the quickest either. This something Algeria can exploit. Algeria showed they can score, with four against South Korea, and could get a goal against Germany for the reasons I’ve highlighted,” Scholes concluded.
