Manchester United legend and former midfielder Roy Keane has insisted that Swedish centre forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic can be a great signing for the Red Devils this summer.
Ibrahimovic has already confirmed his departure from Paris Saint-Germain is expected to join Man United after concluding his national team’s participation in the Euro 2016 in France. The 34-year-old is poised to sign a one-year deal with the Premier League giants and will be reunited with his former Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford next season.
Ahead of Republic of Ireland’s match against Sweden in Euro 2016, Roy Keane gave his approval following the prolific striker’s move and expects him to be a success at the club where he won 17 trophies in his playing career.
“Of course he’s a good fit for United, he’s a good player,” said Keane. “Is he like Eric Cantona? They’re big characters, clearly, whatever you say about Cantona he was a popular lad, and I get the impression Zlatan is the same.
“Whatever you hear about his playing career, you hear from his team mates and he seems to be a bit of a character, and you can see that in the way he plays.”
Keane has relentlessly criticized the current Man United squad for inheriting players lacking in character but anticipates Ibrahimovic to make an impact in the Man United dressing room as well.
“It’s good to see that, because there’s a lack of characters out there, and he certainly is that. On top of all that, he’s a very, very good player. To compare him to Eric, he’s a little different, but he’s a very good player.
“People talk about Ibrahimovic having a bit of temper like that’s a bad thing… it depends how you use it. I’m still learning, but then again I don’t have one,” Keane added.
Ibrahimovic sensationally scored 38 goals in 31 league appearances for the French champions last season and should be a great addition to Man United’s squad for Jose Mourinho’s first season as Manchester United boss.
