Manchester United are looking to sign a defender and have been linked with the Real Madrid star Pepe.

The 30-year-old Portuguese defender is out of contract soon and is negotiating an extension with Los Blancos. However, as per the latest reports, there have been some disagreements between the two parties. Pepe is looking for a two-year extension, but Real Madrid are ready to extend his deal for just one season. In that case, Pepe might be forced to leave the club as a free agent.

José Mourinho has worked with Pepe before and is well aware of his strengths and weaknesses. However, Pepe was not very fond of Mourinho during their time together at Real Madrid. Pepe also revealed his relief after the sacking of Mourinho back then.

He said:Under Mourinho, people hated us when we got out there on the pitch. It lasted three years and thank God it went very quick.

Manchester United have struggled at the back this season and someone like Pepe would add much-needed quality and experience to their defence. He could be a temporary partner for Eric Bailly. The former Villarreal man has impressed Mourinho since joining United this summer.

It will be interesting to see if Pepe can agree on a deal with Real Madrid or not. As for United, signing a player like that on a free transfer would be an absolute masterstroke.

Recently, Mirror reported that Pepe is considering a move to Chelsea at the end of this season.
