Manchester United legend Gary Neville recently has given his full backing to manager Louis van Gaal, saying the Dutchman should remain at the club, even if United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Continuity at the club is important and therefore United probably would stick with their manager.

Judging by the media reports, Van Gaal has already held discussions with United hierarchy over his transfer plans next summer – players he want to bring in and leave out.

One of the major issues that Van Gaal needs to sort out next summer is to provide David de Gea a new contract.

The Spanish goal keeper has been one of the best performers for his side this season but has yet to sign a new deal that expires next year.

United are pretty confident that sooner or later De Gea will commit his future, despite recent reports that Van Gaal doesn’t hold an amicable relationship with his star goal keeper.

The possibility of De Gea leaving the club cannot be completely ruled out either. Real Madrid are thought to be interested in him and should they present a tempting offe and De Gea refuse to sign a new deal, United might part ways with their Spanish keeper.

Do they have any alternatives in mind? It seems yes.

Spanish newspaper Marca claim Van Gaal wanted to sign Keylor Navas in the summer and tried to contact him. However, he was late in his approach as the Costa Rican had already committed his future at Madrid.

Marca speculates Van Gaal might try for Navas in the summer, should De Gea leave the club. In the end they pose a very serious question though – will Van Gaal at all remain at United?
