After his deadline day move to Real Madrid fell through due to delay in paperwork, Manchester United have included goalkeeper David De Gea in their Champions League squad for the current season.

The Spaniard didn’t take part in either of both the legs in United’s playoff fixtures against Club Brugge but the 24 year old will be an integral member in Louis Van Gaal’s side in the group stages of Europe’s elite club competition.

Earlier the LFP claimed that they didn’t receive the necessary paperwork in time, and negated the proposed swap which would have seen De Gea head to Madrid and Keylor Navas make a move to the opposite direction to Manchester United.

United have also included £36m recruit Anthony Martial on the list while all of the club’s five other summer signings in Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay have also been included. Victor Valdes though has been omitted from the list.

However, it will be now interesting to see if Van Gaal picks De Gea right back after he international break in his starting eleven or persists with Argentine Sergio Romero under the sticks. Romero hasn’t featured badly, living up to his standards, keeping 3 clean sheets in 4 Premier League games.

But there is a lot left to be desired after his poor outing against Swansea where United, despite leading by 1-0 were beaten by the resurgent home side with a flurry of two quick goals which could have been saved. United’s next game is at home against arch rivals Liverpool. Thus it will be interesting if De Gea is named in teh playing eleven or Romero keeps his place.

The Mirror have also reported that United could now offer De Gea a new contract trying to convince the shot stopper to stay at the club beyond next summer.

But will he sign the contract or not?
