Manchester United’s desperation to sign a right back in the summer transfer window is well documented with the players they have been linked over the past few weeks. PSG right-back Gregory van der Weil, Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne and Barcelona’s Dani Alves have all been targeted by the Old Trafford side.

Its no secret that manager Louis Van Gaal wants to replace Rafael while Antonio Valencia, who played as a right back in the 2014-15 season, is not a specialist in the position.

The Red Devils have been linked with Monaco’s Fabinho as French media outlet L’Equipe reported that United made an approach to the French Ligue One side to check over the availability of the Brazilian.

The 21 year old is under contract with Monaco until 2019 but Le Parisien have reported yesterday that that the club could sell the player if their €15m evaluation of the right back is met. The report states that both the Manchester sides are interested while there is also concrete interest from several other European heavyweights. Thus any potential suitor could forward with a deal in the coming weeks.

Fabinho spent the last two seasons on loan at Monaco from Portuguese club Rio Ave, was signed on a permanent deal by Monaco just recently. The Brazilian can also play as a defensive midfielder, another position which United are likely to strengthen in the summer.
