Manchester United dominate ESPN’s FA Cup Dream Team

In an ESPNsoccernet.com survey of fans, Sir Alex Ferguson was voted the Greatest FA Cup Manager of all time, and Eric Cantona was voted the all-time Dream FA Cup Player.

Tens of thousands of fans voted online in the ESPNsoccernet Cup of Dreams poll, launched in January by ESPN to celebrate its first season broadcasting the FA Cup. The Ultimate FA Cup XI was selected from a list of 40 players nominated by ESPNsoccernet’s editorial team as finalists. The players with the most votes in each position were named in the Ultimate XI – based on a classic 4-4-2 formation.

With the third highest vote total, Ashley Cole’s FA Cup record of six Final wins has seen him selected in the Ultimate XI’s defence alongside Tony Adams, Bobby Moore and Gary Pallister. Ryan Giggs received the most total votes, and led an all-time FA Cup midfield where he was joined by Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane. Fans selections at forward were Ian Rush and Eric Cantona, while Peter Schmeichel was selected as the all-time FA Cup goalkeeper.
