Manchester United’s hope of signing Neymar is not impossible claims former Barcelona defender Juliano Belletti.

The 23-year-old has come up as a shock target for the Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal as he looks to bolster his attacking division by completing a marquee signing in the summer transfer window. The Brazil international’s former teammate Pedro was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

It was believed the Dutchman pulled the plug and the Spain international completed a move to United’s league rivals Chelsea. Pedro’s move to Stamford Bridge forced Van Gaal and club’s chief executive Ed Woodward to look elsewhere.

Neymar, who has three years left on his contract has emerged as a transfer target for United. However, the ex-Barcelona star says the South American is happy with the treble winners and does not rule out a summer transfer.

“No I don’t think so, Neymar is very happy in Barcelona. He has adapted to the team, the city and his family have adapted as well but nothing is impossible,” he told Omnisport.

Belletti also played for the Premier League champions during his time in England and also for the Champions League winners. He claims both his former club, Chelsea and Barcelona are the favourites to win this season’s Europe’s best club competition.

“It depends on the team. Barca and Chelsea are always favourites but that’s the Champions League, it’s about pressure and for sure they’re prepared for any difficulties,” Belletti said.

Barcelona are draw along with Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and BATE Borisov. Meanwhile, Chelsea have FC Porto, Dynamo Kiev and Maccabi Tel Aviv in their group.
