Manchester United are in talks to sign the PSG striker Edinson Cavani.
With just over one week remaining in the January transfer window, it seems that Louis Van Gaal is determined to add to his attacking options and is willing to break the bank to do so.
Cavani has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since the summer of 2015 and the Uruguayan could well end up at Manchester at the end of this window.
According to reports in Italy, Manchester United have been informed by the player’s entourage that a deal is possible and the Premier League giants are ready to offer around 64 million Euros to secure his services.
The Red Devils have struggled to score goals this season and although Wayne Rooney is back amongst the goals now, it is understandable that Van Gaal wants another striker. New signing Anthony Martial has also fizzled out after a promising start to his Manchester United career.
The two Manchester United strikers have scored a combined total of 11 Premier League goals so far this season. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old PSG forward has bagged 16 goals in 27 appearances already this season.
It is understood that Cavani is unhappy at PSG and would consider a move away from Paris if Manchester United can agree on a fee and promise him regular first team football in his natural position.
The former Napoli striker has often been asked to play out wide to accommodate Ibrahimovic as the number nine and the South American is not too happy about it. Cavani is keen to play as the central striker and that could be possible at Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney could easily operate as the central attacking midfielder in behind the striker with Martial and Juan Mata out wide. It would not only add goals to the Manchester United attack but much-needed depth as well.
Manchester United are desperate to finish in the top four and considering how well Tottenham have done this season, signing a player like Cavani could well be the difference between the two sides at the end of the season.
