Manchester United are showing genuine interest in Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans and the Red Devils have held talks with the player’s representatives for a potential transfer.
However, United are not the only club to have shown an interest in the 18-year-old midfielder. Premier League rivals Chelsea are equally interested in signing the Belgian wonderkid and the Blues have held discussions for the player’s transfer as well.
According to reports from Goal, third-party discussions were held in London last week with representatives of both Chelsea and Manchester United over possible moves for Tielemans next summer.
The 18-year-old midfielder is considered as the next big talent emerging from Belgium and has been one of the top performers in the Jupiter Pro League for several years now.
Tielemans has scored three goals in seven games this season, compared to three in 29 appearances last term. His burgeoning progress has caught the attention of top European clubs and it seems the English giants are ready to take a gamble on him.
He was adjudged the Best Young Player in Belgium for the past two years, and has featured heavily for Belgium’s under-21s.
Manchester United are looking to bring in young talented midfielders with an intention to replace some of the club’s senior players like Michael Carrick, who is fast approaching the end of his club career.
Chelsea likewise are always on the lookout of signing exciting young talents from across the world, and having signed players from Belgium before (Eden Hazard and his brother Thorgan Hazard) it comes as no surprise the Londoners are keen to sign the next big talent emerging from FIFA’s new #1 ranked country.
If given an option, Tielemans should prefer a move to Manchester United over Chelsea at this stage of his career. At his age, regular football is essential for his growth and development, something he is unlikely to get at Chelsea, where youngsters are either trapped in a vicious loan cycle or completely wasted in the academy.
