Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is close to leaving the club during the January transfer window.

According to latest reports, the French defender has a 99.9% chance of completing a transfer away from Merseyside. France Football have published an article discussing the probability of certain players moving this winter and they feel that Sakho is certainly on his way out of Anfield. France Football are a reputed source and Sakho’s situation makes their claim believable as well.

The defender is not a part of Jurgen Klopp‘s plans and has not played a single game this season. Sakho has been out of the first team picture for a while now. The Liverpool fan favourite was banned right before the Europa League final last season.

The 26-year-old centre-back managed to upset Klopp during the pre-season tour and then infuriated the German once again with his Snapchat posts criticizing the club, back in September.

Ligue 1 club Lille have been monitoring his situation and it will be interesting to see if they make a move during the January window.

Despite all the issues with Klopp, Sakho is a good defender and needs to play regularly. Considering the fact that Klopp will not allow him to play for Liverpool, a move away makes sense for all parties involved. Sakho can then get his career back on track and Liverpool will also get to shift a high-earning fringe player off their books.
