Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez is set to sign a new deal with the Spanish champions Barcelona.

The 29-year-old forward has been sensational for the Catalan giants ever since he joined from Liverpool in 2014. Suárez has scored 94 goals in 109 appearances for Barcelona so far and it is no surprise that the club wants to hold on to him.

The news was confirmed by club president Josep Bartomeu during a general annual meeting yesterday. Bartomeu revealed that the club are looking to tie Suárez down to a new long-term contract and will then sit down with Lionel Messi to discuss an extension.

Bartomeu said:

These strikers are spectacular. Believe that our principal objective is that they all stay here. Neymar has renewed and now we are trying so that Suárez stays here for many years to come and then we will speak with Messi of course. He is the catalyst, the one that makes everything else function.

Recently, Brazilian superstar Neymar signed a new long-term deal with the Spanish giants.

Suárez was linked with a move to the Premier League earlier this week. Apparently, José Mourinho is a fan of the striker and was planning to lodge a 135 million pounds bid for him during the summer transfer window. However, if Suarez signs an extension, there is no way the transfer will happen.

Spanish media are reporting that the deal will be officially announced once the minor details are ironed out. Suárez’s new deal will tie him to the club until 2021.
