Last night defending Champions Spain bowed out of the World Cup after suffering two back to back defeats against Holland and Chile. Tonight, it could be the turn of either Uruguay or England, as both the teams face each other, in a do-or-die crunch tie in the World Cup group D encounter.
Uruguay lost their opening match against Costa Rica, while England suffered a 2-1 defeat against Italy. Luis Suarez, who missed the last match with injury, has declared himself fit and will start tonight against the Three Lions.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who is Yahoo’s Global ambassador and working an exclusive analyst for Yahoo’s worldwide football coverage, feels that England must of course be wary of Suarez, who was a constant nemesis for defenders across the country. Suarez scored 31 league goals last season and won the Premier League player of the year award as well.
“Suarez is a very important player for Uruguay. Uruguay had a very unexpected result in the first match, they are, as England, one defeat and goodbye. Suarez is coming back from injury and for sure, he feels his country deeply, the South American that plays in Europe, that lives in Europe.”
“Eleven months in a year, they go back they want to be, they want to be magic to their team and when Suarez plays together with Cavani, the mobility, the understanding, the aggressiveness, the intensity is high and for sure it is going to create problems to the English side.”
Mourinho has been a regular critic of the Liverpool striker. Last season, he described him as an “acrobatic swimming pool” diver, while dubbed him as King of penalties. The Portuguese feels that England should be able to deal with his “amazing” qualities, as Suarez plays in the Premier League. He added:
“Obviously, they know them very well, especially Suarez because he plays in this country, they know everything about him. They know his amazing qualities as a player.
“They know also that he can find a penalty where nobody else finds, but really I think Suarez is going to create problems for England. It’s a big match, that I wait a lot for this match because this is like a knock-out game, the one that loses is out. So, two good teams and big expectation really.”
