Paul Scholes Ryan Giggs and Gary NevilleManchester United are set to make a move in bringing their former player Paul Scholes back to the club, but this time as a part of the coaching staff.

The Old Trafford favourite joined Ryan Giggs as a part of his coaching staff for the last four games of the previous campaign, following the exit of David Moyes. However, since Louis van Gaal was appointed as the successor to the former Everton boss, Scholes has not been included in the Dutchman’s backroom staff.

Earlier in May, Scholes publicly slammed United’s chief executive Ed Woodward, blaming him for the Red Devils’ disappointing form in all competitions last season.

“I’ve not spoken to Edward Woodward. I came back for Ryan Giggs for the last few games of last season to try to help out but I’m not waiting for a phone call and don’t expect to be at United next season,” Scholes wrote in his Paddy Power blog.

“Moyes took a lot of stick but I believe he’s a top manager. I’d question if 10 months was enough time. Woodward has an awful lot to prove this time that he’s good enough at his job.”

According to The Times, United are confident that the former midfielder’s criticism on Woodward will not stop the club in bringing him back to take care of the training roles.

The report suggests that Scholes is likely to join another member of Class of 92, Nicky Butt, in taking care of United’s U21 team. Also, Phil Neville, who was the first team coach under Moyes will be given an ambassador role at Old Trafford.

Scholes has won everything with the club during his long career as a player. He has got the vision to help young players develop and help Van Gaal earth the talented gem in the Red Devils’ youth setup. The former England midfielder being back at United U21 would be great for United.
