Playing the Powerball Lottery UK

The Powerball lottery is a game based in the USA, which is available to play in the UK. The Powerball jackpot prizes are absolutely huge in comparison to the sums that we are used to being on offer with UK lotteries and the EuroMillions.

In 2016, the Powerball jackpot winning numbers came up for John and Lisa Robinson of Tennessee, Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt of Florida and Marvin and Mae Acosta of California. They shared a jackpot of USD$1.6 billion, which remains the world record figure for a lottery win.

It’s no surprise then, that UK lottery betting players have been keen to experience the Powerball game themselves. Though you can’t actually buy a ticket for the Powerball lottery from the UK, you can bet on what numbers will be drawn out. You will receive the same odds as US players and the same prizes.

So say you pick your numbers and place a bet at them at a UK Powerball provider. If your numbers get picked out in the draw, then a firm like Lottoland will pay you the amount that you would have won if the official prize fund was shared between you and any official lottery winners.

Lottery winners in the USA will pay tax on their winnings. For this reason, both Sir Lotto and Lottoland will reduce the winning amount for the very top prizes, by 38% to reflect the amount of tax that would be paid in the US. If you win the jackpot, you’ll either be paid via an annuity option over a 30-year period, or as a reduced lump sum.

It costs £3 to play a single line, or £6 once the jackpot reaches a certain level. You can also add a PowerPlay at the cost of £1 to multiply most the prizes. Then there’s the option of doubling the cost of your line, to potentially win a double jackpot.

To play the Powerball lottery, pick out five numbers from 1 to 69, followed by a Powerball from between 1 and 26. It’s up to you as to whether you choose these numbers yourself, or have them automatically chosen for you.

With three draws a week, there’s plenty of opportunity to play. Read on to find out more about this exciting lottery.

Powerball UK Draws

The draw for the Powerball lottery is made three times a week, in Florida. There’s a draw every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11pm Florida time, which equates to Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 4am, for the Powerball UK results to come in.

When it comes to Powerball draw time, five numbers are randomly selected from 1 to 69. Then the Powerball is drawn from a separate pot, from numbers 1 to 26. The balls are all drawn mechanically, with nobody physically picking them out, so you can be assured that it is a totally safe process.

Should you want to watch the draw live you can do so at the Powerball website. If you want to know the Powerball numbers from last night, then there’s also the option of watching a replay.

With the numbers being plucked out three times a week, you’re never far from the next Powerball drawing. The frequency of the Powerball drawing time, is one of the reasons that the jackpots can reach such huge figures.

The Odds of Winning the the Powerball Jackpot UK

With such huge jackpots up for grabs, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the odds for winning anything on the international Powerball online lottery, might be extremely high. In actual fact, the odds of becoming a Powerball winner and landing a prize of any kind, is 25/1.

That’s not too bad at all considering that you are in with a chance of winning a life-changing sum of money, along with plenty of other smaller prizes. As you’ll see, the chances of appearing on the Powerball jackpot list for UK players, are pretty huge at 292,201,338/1. Yet that’s the case with just about every lottery.

You buy a ticket or play on top betting sites, knowing the chances of winning the big one, are extremely rare. What makes people enter a lottery at such odds, is the knowledge that people do win it and are blessed with an amount of money with which they can not only change their own lives, but also those of their family and friends. So if somebody has to win it, then why not you?

Powerball Draw Prize Tiers Overall Odds
Powerball 38/1

Powerball + Two Numbers 701/1
Three Numbers 579/1
Powerball + Three Numbers 14,494/1
Four Numbers 36,525/1
Powerball + Four Numbers 913,129/1
Five Numbers 11,688,053/1

Powerball Lottery Results

Once you’ve placed your bet, all that’s left to do is to wait for the Powerball results. As we stated previously, you can watch the Powerball next drawing direct from the official website, but as it takes place at 4am UK time, we imagine that most of you would prefer to catch up with the results later on in the morning.

Instead, head over to one of our recommended Powerball UK providers in Sir Lotto. In their Powerball section there is a tab marked ‘Powerball Results’. Click on that and you’ll be taken to a page showing the latest results from Powerball.

The results show not just the latest numbers that have been drawn out, but also a Powerball prize breakdown. As well as checking out the latest results, this is the facility to look back at past results over the last ten years.

When it comes to the latest and past results from Powerball, the Sir Lotto website really has you covered. You’ll never find yourself wondering what time is the Powerball drawing, again.

How Does Powerball Work

In this section we’re going to show you how to play Powerball. It’s a pretty simple process and we’ve no doubt that you’d find it easy without our help. Just to make sure though, we’re going to break things down step by step, so that you know exactly what you’re doing.

We’re going to use one of our recommended Powerball UK providers in Lottoland. So therefore, we’re going to show you exactly how to play the Powerball lottery at Lottoland, from sign up to finalising your bet.

Step 1: Visit the Site and Register

Visit the Lottoland website. At the very top of the screen, on the right-hand side, is a tab marked ‘Register’. Click on it to go through to the next stage.

A pop up will appear. You have to enter your personal details, starting with your email address, before selecting a password. Enter your name, date of birth and address. Confirm that you are over 18 years old and then click on the green button marked ‘Create a New Account’, to progress.

Step 2: Find The Lotto Powerball Section

You’ve now got an account with Lottoland (or Sir Lotto), so it’s time to find the Powerball section. There is a green bar at the top of the screen, featuring various headings. Hover over the one that says ‘More Jackpots’.

This will bring up another menu that shows various lotteries. Amongst them is the red Powerball, showing a lottery ball with an American flag, as an emblem. Click on this to move forward to the Powerball section.

Step 3: Choose Your Numbers

Now it’s time to choose your numbers. It’s possible to pick lots of random numbers and place combo bets, or do multiple tickets. We’re going to keep it nice and simple, by just selecting five numbers and a Powerball, on a single playslip ticket.

Powerball slip

At the top of the Powerball section is a red bet slip area, which shows various bet slips, numbered 1 to 6. Let’s enter our numbers on the first slip. You might see some quick picks already selected by the number generator. In order to delete them, hover over the top of the slip and click on the bin icon. Now with the slip cleared, pick five numbers between 1 and 69. At the bottom of the slip is the word ‘Powerball’, next to a drop menu from which you select one ball from 1 to 26.

Step 4: Finalise The Details

Once you’ve picked your set of numbers, choose which day’s lottery that you want to enter. Underneath the playslip is a box where you select the draw you want to bet on – Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday. Next to that box is another where you select the duration.

You can select just one week, up to a full year’s worth of regular bets, along with setting billing details. There’s also a tick box where you can tick to set a Jackpot hunt, where you will then buy regular tickets automatically, until the estimated jackpot prize pool is won.

Powerball finalise

The next box along will allow you to set things up so that you only bet on the Powerball lottery game when the jackpot reaches a certain level. It will be automatically set at a valuation that allows you to play the next draw, with that draw date also pre-selected.

You can choose to alter this from consecutive drawings if you wish, to select any date of draw that you want. Play costs will increase, though. Finally, the last box allows you to click to take the PowerPlay option, which for an extra £1 can multiply any non-jackpot prizes. This is double play up to a 10x multiplier.

Step 5: Place Your Powerball Bet

Once all the details have been set, it’s time to finalise the bet. Scroll a little further down and you will see a big box with a green button marked ‘Place Bet’.

This box also includes how many lines you are betting on and the cost. If it’s just one line, then the cost will be £3, or £4 if you chose to add the PowerPlay. Provided that you’re happy with the bet, click on the ‘Place Bet’ button to confirm.
