Over the past few days, we have covered several stories on quite a handful of goalkeepers with whom Liverpool have been linked. The Anfield side’s need for a shot stopper, who can challenge Simon Mignolet for the number one spot, is well documented. First, the Reds were looking to sign Fiorentina star Neto but the Brazilian is now set to sign a new contract soon with the Florence based outfit. FC Koln’s Timo Horn is another transfer target but the German too might not leave his home land soon.

However, according to the trusted and reliable Italian website TMW, the Reds are now looking at a possible option to sign Mattia Perin from Genoa. The 21 year old is considered as one of the hottest prospect in Italian shores and has drawn comparisons with Gianluigi Buffon at such a young age.

Perin’s talents hasn’t gone unnoticed and he has attracted the envious glances of European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Nouveau Riche French side Monaco. The reports clearly mentions that any potential suitors will now have to pay €20m to acquire his services. However Perin’s agent Matteo Roggi has claimed that his agent is happy to stay at Genoa and will not move in the upcoming winter transfer window until an enticing offer is tabled.

The Metro quoted Roggi speaking to Calcio Mercato as, “Mattia is one of Genoa’s finest pieces, but logic leads me to state that he will stay there until the end of the season. He needs to in order to keep growing at what he feels like his home. And that’s what he thinks too. Obviously in football, you can never say never because if in January somebody came with an undeniably good offer, then he would leave.”

The question now is, will the Reds be willing to offer €20m for such a young goalkeeper or they might look for a ‘cheaper’ alternative elsewhere? Only time can provide an apt answer.
