Pepe ReinaLiverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has revealed that he is uncertain over his future and will return to Anfield this summer.

The Spain international was on a season-long loan at Napoli, where he reunited with the Reds former manager Rafael Benitez. He was with the Spain squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and after the defending champions’ shock exit from the group stages, Reina will be returning to the Merseyside.

Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland last summer and the arrival of the Belgium international forced Reina to be dropped to the bench. The former Valencia stopper was not keen on playing second fiddle at Liverpool and made a loan switch to Napoli.

The 31-year-old admitted that his people are working to sort out his future and has not spoken to the former Swansea manager over his future at Anfield.

“I don’t know about my future. I want to be calm about it and there are people who are working on that. I have two years left on my Liverpool contract and the situation is the same as a month ago,” Reina said, as reported in The Guardian.

“I’ve not spoken to Rodgers and I don’t know what they think but I have a contract and in the end that is what counts. I have to join up with Liverpool and there’s nothing more I can do.”

The Serie A outfit were believed to be interested in signing Reina on a permanent transfer this summer. However, the Spaniard says the former Chelsea interim boss is aware of his contract situation.

“I said goodbye to Rafa at the end of the season and he knows the conditions that exist. At the moment things are like that,” Reina concluded.

Meanwhile, Reina still has a contract at Liverpool and should the Reds fail to offload him in the summer transfer window, Rodgers will be forced to keep him at the club.

This could push Mignolet to improve his form and performance to retain his place in Liverpool’s starting XI next season.
