Liverpool are keen to bring Barcelona’s highly talented right-back Martin Montoya, who is also a reported target of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old, who made his debut under ex-manager Pep Guardiola, has a contract till 2014 and will be a free agent at the end of the present campaign.

The youngster has failed to secure regular starting berth at Nou Camp, due to evergreen presence of Dani Alves, and according to Spanish newspaper AS, the negotiation of the player’s contract has stopped completely while his desire to play abroad has sparked interests of top European clubs.

In October, we reported that Liverpool are monitoring his situation while AS reporting that Tottenham and Roma are also interested in securing his services.

The player’s agent, Jose Maria Orobitg, said in October: “For the moment he is under contract with FC Barcelona until the end of the season.

“We have talked but there is no certainty that Martin Montoya would hold down a first-team spot, because right now Daniel Alves closes the door.”

Liverpool already have Glen Johnson, Andre Wisdom, Martin Kelly and Jon Flanagan on their ranks as right back, but Kelly has hardly featured this season with injury while Johnson’s form recently hasn’t been too impressive either. So, it is interesting to see, whether Brendan Rodgers actually move for him or not in coming months.

Likewise, Spurs may look for another young quality defender who can replace and add competition to Kyle Walker for the right-back role.
