The upcoming summer transfer window is vital for Liverpool. The Reds must back Jurgen Klopp with sufficient funds to bring in players of his choice.

The current Liverpool squad is full of under-performing players, and a major overhaul is needed. Put simply, Klopp needs to bring in top players in order to build a strong squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

It is going to be difficult to attract big name players without Champions League football, but the club should try at least to lure them, even at the cost of paying over the odds.

According to reports from Spanish newspaper Sport, Liverpool are seemingly interested in Real Madrid attacker Jese Rodriguez. The former Dortmund manager wants to bring the player to Anfield next season.

Klopp has reportedly urged the Liverpool board to approach Real Madrid over the signing of Jese, who is valued at £23.2m. Klopp sees the U-21 Spain international as a potential goal scoring asset for the side. The report claims that Liverpool are willing to meet the asking price for Jese, who is also a reported target of Premier League giants Arsenal.

Jese broke into the senior squad after emerging through the youth ranks at the club. He has always impressed when given a chance, but has struggled for game time this season.

The 22-year-old has scored twice and registered two assists in 14 La Liga games this term, but has started in only four of them.

Madrid are choc-a-bloc with world class attacking players, and it is really hard for young Jese to hold down a regular starting spot at the Bernabeu.

It is understood that he has become frustrated by his lack of first action, and could be looking for a move elsewhere in the summer.
