‘I’m the main culprit’ – Liverpool player takes the blame after poor show

Liverpool failed to take the chances of increasing the lead with other top-four contenders, as the Reds only managed a 1-1 draw against West Brom at the Hawthorns yesterday.

Kolo Toure’s blunder (side pass to Anichebe) gave West Brom the lucky equalizer and cost two points, which could prove costly in the race for top four.

However, this story is not about Kolo Toure.

Liverpool goal keeper, Pepe Reina, who is now on loan to Napoli, has had a poor game against Atalanta, as the Italian giants lost 3-0.

Rafael Benitez’ side lost ground in the title race with that defeat, while Reina, whose future seems almost certain to be away from Anfield, has accepted the blame for his mistakes during the match.

Reina said after the match to Corrie dello sport:

“I am the main culprit of defeat. I feel sick, it was my mistake.”

“The game has changed after my mistake. I feel very bad for the team and for our fans.  The ball is passed between the legs of Albiol and have not seen it go, but there are no excuses.”

Reina was one of the most reliable players of Liverpool but became more error-prone in the last couple of years. In fact, his last season at Anfield was replete with individual errors and ghastly mistakes and it seems like his Liverpool future is all but over.
