Good news for the Liverpool fans. The Reds have stepped up the gas to sign the highly rated Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer.

According to reliable Sky Italia journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have opened talks with Bayern over the possibility of signing the €20m winger.

Last month, The Guardian published a story, where they claimed Liverpool are plotting an audacious move for Shaqiri. The 22-year-old is a regular for his Swiss national team but has failed to secure regular starting place in the star-studded Bayern team.

However, early this month, Swiss newspaper Blick claimed that Shaqiri might opt to stay at Bayern, beyond the summer.

The Swiss international is valued around €20m and I personally don’t think it will be difficult for Liverpool to lure him. First of all, money isn’t a problem for the Reds this season, with the club officials having promised to back manager Brendan Rodgers with enough funds (Champions League revenue plus TV money).

Secondly and most importantly, Liverpool can not only offer him regular games at Anfield but can lure him with the platform of Champions League football as well.

Liverpool already have signed Rickie Lambert from Southampton and has agreed a deal in principle for Emre Can as well. It will be a cracker of a signing, should Liverpool succeed in pulling off the deal for Shaqiri.
