Liverpool and Manchester United miss out on yet another midfield target

Liverpool have missed out on yet another of their January transfer target. The Anfield club earlier missed out on Mohamed Salah, who joined Chelsea this month.

The Reds are in need to bolster their midfield, especially after the injury to Lucas Leiva and were thought to be interested in Lazio’s play-maker Hernanes, but the club never made any concrete approach for the Brazilian.

Hernanes

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Serie A has struck 33 league goals since his arrival from Sao Paulo.

Likewise, Hernanes was linked with a move to Manchester United as well, with reports emerged that the player’s agent flew to Manchester last week for talks with the United officials.

Lazio’s president Claudio Lotito was loathe to lose Hernanes, but he insisted that the club could consider cashing in on the player, should the offer is right.

“Hernanes has not been put up for sale by Lazio, but if an indecent offer came it would be assessed,” he is quoted as saying on TMW. “His value is recognised at international level – it is not easy to find a player with his qualities.”

“I do not want to sell him, we will have to receive an indecent offer – £15 million will not be enough.”

The player himself said recently that he is not thinking about leaving the club in January, rather focusing on the work at hand.

However, according to reports, Inter Milan have reached an agreement for Hernanes, for €13m, with Senegal defender Ibrahima Mbaye moving in the other direction.
