Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that Jordan Henderson will sign a new deal with the club. The club’s vice captain is set to be the skipper after Steven Gerrard leaves the club at the end of the season.

Henderson just has 15 months on his existing contract ans despite some delays, Rodgers believes that Henderson will commit his long term future with the club. The former Sunderland man has impressed with a series of commanding displays this season and has led the Reds for the last four matches as Steven Gerrard has been missing out on the action with a hamstring injury.

Rodgers said, “I know Jordan Henderson wants to be here at Liverpool. I’ve got no qualms about that. We’re trying to build something here, so Jordan knows the importance of his position here within the team. I hope he’s seen how he’s improved as a player in the last two-and-a-half years and he will want to continue with that improvement.”

“He’s a boy who’s very happy here. I think it’s a separate thing for his agent and the club to sort out, and I know that’s what they’re looking to do.” As Henderson is in line to sign his new deal, it comes as major development for the 24 year old who joined the club in 2011 in a £20m deal.
