Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has confirmed he will be heading to the USA in the next chapter of his football career when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

On New Year’s Day, the club and Gerrard had announced that he would not be getting an extension to his current deal.

That same day, reliable Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio had speculated that Gerrard would be on his way to Los Angeles Galaxy in the Major League Soccer.

In an exclusive interview with Liverpool FC TV moments ago, Steven Gerrard confirmed that he would be on his way to the USA at the end of the season but that no deal had yet been signed:

With Gerrard saying that he was “close” to signing a deal over in the USA suggests that reliable journalist Di Marzio may be correct once again, in guessing that LA Galaxy are the team closing in on the Liverpool legend.

Steven Gerrard has been with Liverpool for quarter of a century having joined their academy at the age of nine.  He has gone on to make 494 Premier League appearances for the Reds, scoring an impressive 116 goals from midfield.

Amongst those goals, he scored in both the 3-3 2005 UEFA Champions League final and 3-3 2006 FA Cup final in which Liverpool went on to win both trophies.

Gerrard has won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, 2x Super Cups, 2x FA Cups, 3x League Cups and the Community Shield during his time at Anfield since making his debut in 1998.

The Liverpool captain went on to make 114 appearances for the England national team but captained to their disastrous campaigns in both 2010 and 2014.
