Ahead of their UEFA Champions League first leg tie with Manchester United on Tuesday evening, AC Milan defeated Udinese, 3 x 2, on Friday night at the San Siro. It was a match that highlighted their strengths and weaknesses. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a brace, and Alexandre Pato added the third for the Rossoneri. Ronaldinho Gaucho was involved in all three goals. Udinese looked very dangerous on the break with goals by Antonio Floro Flores and Antonio Di Natale.

AC Milan 3-2 Udinese – Highlights

A Test before Manchester United

“It will take a great effort to eliminate the Red Devils. To repeat that magical night from three years ago, when Milan won 3 x 0 to take them to the final in Athens, is practically unthinkable. But in any case, it will take a super Milan. Therefore, it will be fundamental to find the proper defensive aspect. This was evidenced by their inability to stop the Udinese counterattacks. And thinking of Wayne Rooney makes you shudder.”

‘They (my team) are going to unite as I said before. When you have such a strong desire to win, there is this anxiety and small things seem like big mistakes. We needed a good display and a win. And we succeeded.” Leonardo de Araujo, manager of AC Milan.

Favorable Tradition

In 2007, Milan produced a magical performance to eliminate the Red Devils, 3 x 0, to book their passage to the UEFA Champions League final in Athens.

“The Milan manager, therefore, hasn’t lost his enthusiasm and the victory soothed him.”

‘This is the most positive response. To see that the team wanted to win the game at all costs. What makes the difference was the spirit from today (Friday). It was evident straight away (against Udinese) and against Manchester United, you need all of this.’

“From the past, Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani is convinced, but he also mentioned the support that Milan will have from its supporters.”

‘Tuesday night the San Siro will be sold-out. Manchester United is a tremendous side, but against them we have a favorable tradition.’ ”
