Chelsea are prepared to make their first signing of the January window after the Premier League champions got in touch with Lazio regarding the versatile winger Antonio Candreva.

According to a report from Tuttomercato, Roman Abramovich has got in touch with Lazio regarding the transfer and a move is likely when the winter window opens in a few weeks.

Chelsea are in desperate need of some attacking options and Mourinho has identified the versatile Candreva as an ideal solution to his problems.

The Lazio winger is extremely quick and agile. Along with his outstanding dribbling, Candreva possesses a thunderous shot as well.

Furthermore, Candreva’s set piece abilities will also come in handy from free kicks. The Chelsea side are severely lacking in goals and another set piece merchant like Willian will be more than welcome.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has looked badly out of form and new signing Pedro Rodriguez has been inconsistent so far. Mourinho is keen to add another wide man with the hope of freshening things up.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea manage to convince Lazio but for the right price Candreva could be an extremely effective signing for the Premier League giants.

Chelsea are 16th in the league table and are in danger of missing out on Champions league qualification for next season.

Mourinho will hope that his new signing can adapt to the league immediately and fire Chelsea back into the top four.
