According to La Liga expert Guillem Balague, Liverpool and Chelsea target Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic will not leave the club in the January transfer window, but he is almost certain to leave next summer.

Liverpool are thought to be one of the interested clubs looking to sign the highly rated midfielder. In December, Liverpool Echo reported that Brendan Rodgers sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old, who is also targeted by Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Sevilla already sold Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo to join Manchester City in the summer, but the cash-trapped club were said to be willing to allow the Croatia international leave for as little as £7million.

“A football player can never say with certainty that he will remain in his club,’ Rakitic told Spanish reporters as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“Such is the nature of our business. I’m in Seville for three years now and in this time many things have changed.

“It is clear that in such a big club people can not be satisfied with average results. If there is no success, if there are no trophies, frustration grows. Everything has changed.”

Balague, however believes that that Sevilla won’t sell the player now, but would “almost certainly” sell him in the summer.

The Andalusian club are negotiating a renewal of his contract, while he has a buy-out clause is €40 million. The new deal would increase his wages and reduce that clause.

Sevilla are performing well in the league at the moment, winning their last seven league games and are one of the favourites for a place in Europe, so they will certainly not want to lose a key member of the squad at this moment.
