We have the morning Manchester United transfer news update – Serie A giants Inter Milan are planning to make formal offer for Manchester United target Benjamin Mendy, while Spanish midfielder Juan Mata is wanted by La Liga outfit Sevilla.

French magazine Le 10 Sport claim Serie A giants Inter Milan are keen to sign Olympique de Marseille defender Benjamin Mendy, who is also a reported target of Manchester United.

The 20-times Premier League champions were one of the interested clubs who showed strong interest in the 20-year-old defender last summer, and the Red Devils need to act fast in order to secure his services (provided they still retain the interest) as Le 10 claim Inter Milan are looking to lodge a €7m formal bid in the January transfer window.

Marseille, managed by Marcelo Bielsa, have other issues to deal with – most importantly the futures of André-Pierre Gignac and André Ayew – but this latest move from the Nerazzurri could leave the club in tatters come January.

Bielsa has made it clear to the defender that if he continues to perform at a high level, Marseille won’t be able to hold on to him for long, as they would be powerless to protect him once big European clubs approach with tempting offers. In a way, the Ligue 1 giants are more-or-less prepared to move on without their precious young jewel.

Manchester United have had defensive problems this season, mainly because of injuries of several key players, and manager Louis van Gaal is likely to delve into the transfer market to sign a quality centre-back.

Mendy is a highly talented footballer no doubt, but United are looking for an experienced defender at the moment, with the likes of Ron Vlaar, Diego Godin and Mats Hummels are the possible candidates being targeted.

Moving to other transfer news, David McDonnell of The Mirror claims that La Liga giants Sevilla are considering making a move for Manchester United’s world class attacking midfielder Juan Mata in January.

The 26-year-old, joined from Chelsea, last January for a reported fee of £37.5m, has been in and out of the side under Louis van Gaal, and Sevilla believe they can test United’s resolve with a mega bid in January.

Mata has mainly played a second fiddle role to Wayne Rooney, but United are reluctant to sell such a tremendously gifted footballer. Also the Spaniard, who scored the winner against Stoke City on Tuesday, seems to be enjoying his life at Old Trafford as well.

United, however, could be looking to offload him next summer, should they find able replacements like Kevin Strootman or Marco Reus.
