James Tarkowski wants to join West Ham this summer

West Ham United were linked with a move for Burnley defender James Tarkowski earlier this month.

Football Insider are now reporting that the 28-year-old is very keen on a move to the London club.

He was a target for the Hammers last summer, but they failed to agree a fee with the Clarets.

Tarkowski has a contract at Turf Moor until 2022, and Burnley will be under pressure to cash in on him now.

They cannot afford to lose a key player on a free transfer, and West Ham will certainly have an edge in the transfer chase this time around.

SL View: Tarkowski could transform the West Ham back four

The Hammers need some defensive reinforcements and Tarkowski would be a massive upgrade on the likes of Craig Dawson.

David Moyes must add more quality to his squad to compete in the Europa League and the Premier League next year.

Signings like Tarkowski could prove to be smart additions for the Hammers.

He is well settled in the Premier League and should be able to make an immediate impact if he moves to the London club.

Apart from his defensive qualities, Tarkowski’s leadership could also prove to be vital for the Londoners.

Burnley are already looking at potential replacements for Tarkowski and have identified Stoke City’s Nathan Collins as a target.

West Ham will be hoping to agree on a reasonable fee for the defender in the coming weeks and his contract situation certainly rules out a premium asking price.
