The 2014/15 season was a season to forget for both the Milan clubs. They dropped out of top five, and missed out on European spots as a result. This season, however, it has been a different story.
Both the clubs have spent big in the summer, but Inter with a net spend of £5.8m has done an impressive business of the two. They added first team quality and improved the squad depth at the same time. Geoffrey Kondogbia arrives as the club’s third most expensive player, while the signing of Stevan Jovetic has given them a new dimension in their attacking line up.
There have been departures in Hernanes, Kovacic and Shaqiri but Inter have replaced them with quality signings in Perisic, Ljajic and Biabiany.
The Nerazzurri have picked up six points from their opening two games, but they were far from convincing. Against Atalanta, it needed a last gasp winner from Jovetic to seal three points, while against Carpi, a game Inter was expected to win by a heavy margin, it was the Montenegrin’s late goal again that made the difference in an otherwise an effective but uninspiring start.
Milan on the other hand have had a stuttering start to the season , having lost their opening game of 2015-16 Serie A campaign at Fiorentina. However, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side has bounced back to win 2-1 over Empoli in the last game.
New signing Carlos Bacca has made a strong impression already. The Colombian striker, who enjoyed two great years with Sevilla, has shown already (goal against Empoli) that he can be a deadly threat in front of goal.

The signings of Perisic and Ljajic will bring tactical flexibility to the side. Roberto Mancini can switch to either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, but the former Manchester City manager would like to prefer having width in attack.
Nemanja Vidic, Miranda and Dodo are all out for this game, but Mauro Icardi should be fit to lead the line.
AC Milan Team News
Jeremy Menez, Luca Antonelli and Andrea Bertolacci all expected to miss out. It remains to be seen whether the Milan boss continues his experiment with Suso in the trequartista role. New signing Mario Balotelli may play some part against his former club.
