Football Headlines – 04 May 2007

The not-so-daily roundup returns.

News Headlines

  1. Arsene Wenger has been fined by the FA for calling the linesman a liar. It’s hard not to sympathise with Wenger over this – after TV reviews there was ample time for the Adebayor red card to be overturned (or at least have the suspension reduced) but the authorities ‘stuck to their guns’. We hear it is because of their desire to preserve the game’s integrity, but I suspect it’s because they are shit scared to admit that one of their own was wrong.
  2. There’s a story on ESPN.com about the New York Yankees firing their conditioning coach after a rash of injuries at the start of the season. Injuries, ruined season, similar injuries – sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
  3. Gattuso thinks that Liverpool are a long-ball team. No, really. Surprised, aren’t you? I didn’t think myself that Gattuso would know this much about the Premiership.

Of course he’s wrong, but it’s fun to see him winding up the opposition 3 weeks ahead of the Champions League final – and if you add to that the fact that Gattuso is a bloody nutter, you can almost bet on him having another shoving match, this time in Athens.

  4. Shevchenko is really injured, and wasn’t dumped by Mourinho. Surprised that JM told the truth?
  5. 2 weeks we asked whether it was racist to tell someone if they smell. Well, the French say that it’s not racist, but it does deserve a 3-match ban. Ridiculous? Retarded.
  6. Jonathan Wilson in the Guardian talks about Barcelona’s latest young star, Bojan Krkic.
  7. World Cup 2010 authorities are concerned that visiting fans may be superglued to their bikes if they don’t take the right precautions.
