Brazil supporters are known to be very passionate about their football. Naturally, the fans were disappointed to see the Selecao performing poorly in the Copa America.

Few angry fans vented their frustrations on the team, yelling at Dunga to resign immediately. Even Liverpool’s new signing Roberto Firmino wasn’t spared, and the 23-year-old had to face the wrath. The former Hoffenheim star who joined Liverpool last week for a reported fee of £29m was called a ‘mercenary’ by the angry Brazil fans.

The Brazil team was at Sao Paolo airport, when a group of supporters called Firmino, as quoted by German newspaper Bild – “Mercenaries! You have to play out of love for Brazil!”

Firmino didn’t enjoy a good campaign at the Copa, and was criticised by the English media as well. To be honest, the way things turned out, his big money move coincided with Brazil’s disappointing exit, made a natural scapegoat.

Former Liverpool defender Marcus Babbel labelled this transfer as ‘brutal’ hinting the club had paid over the odds to sign the Brazilian.

Firmino was one of the standout players in the Bundesliga over the last couple of seasons. He was outstanding especially in 2013/14 where he scored 22 goals in all competitions.

The Times writer Jonathan Northcroft praised him heavily saying he would be a terrific signing for the Reds.

Liverpool fans will be expecting Firmino to justify his price tag by producing his performances for the club. The Reds have made a good start to the summer transfer window, having signed six players already.
