World footballing heavyweights – Argentina and Netherlands – face-off for a World Cup 2022 Quarter-final on Friday in what’s set up to be one of the games of the tournament so far.

Past Meetings and FIFA Rankings

With Argentina ranked 3rd in the FIFA World rankings and the Netherlands 8th, there is only 5 places between the nations football sides, while both have got this far after topping their groups and then winning their recent ‘last 16’ match.

They’ve met 9 times in the past and despite being the lower ranked, Argentina have only beaten the Netherlands once, with the European side recording four wins and there’s been 4 draws too.

The last clash was actually in a 2014 World Cup semi-final, which ended 0-0 and Argentina went onto win on penalties. However, the Netherlands are six games unbeaten against Argentina and the South American two-time World Cup winners have also not scored in their last three games (90 mins) against Holland.

Recent Stats Point To a Low-Scoring Match

Yes, 4 of the last 6 head-to-heads have been draws, so this is sure to be popular in a tight-looking game @ 3.20 with crypto sportsbook Lucky Block, while 5 of the last 6 meetings also went Under 2.5 Goals, plus both teams ‘DIDN’T’ score in 67% of the last six clashes.

Both teams NOT to score is on offer @1.74 with Lucky Block, while Under 2.5 goals is @ 1.58

The Netherlands also come into the game unbeaten in their last 20, and despite that shock opening 2022 World Cup defeat to Saudi Arabia, Argentina have lost just 1 of their last 40 fixtures.

Who Are The Likely Scorers?

Lionel Messi, who have also ready been on the 2022 World Cup scoresheet three times, will be looking for International goal number 94 in his 169th cap and should Argentina lose here this is likely to the be the last time we see Messi on the World Cup stage. Messi is 2.75 to score in the match with Lucky Block.

In terms of the Netherlands, Memphis Depay is their main scorer in the squad with 43 goals from 85 caps and he was on target in their last game too. Depay is on offer at 3.95 to score anytime in the game with Lucky Block.

A Tight Game On The Cards

Overall, it’s a game that strong cases can be made for either side and a draw, extra-time and maybe even penalties, like the last time they met in the World Cup, might be needed again. But the safer call is to side with Under 2.5 Goals here – a bet that has paid out in 5 of the Netherland’s last 6 matches (83%) and also in 5 of the 6 overall head-to-heads between the nations.

Grading ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s 2023 NFL Draft Big Board - originally posted on Sportslens.com

ESPN’s Mel Kiper is one of the most respected draft analysts in the business. But here at Sports Lens, we respect nobody (Editor note: The view expressed here belongs solely to the author). We are happy to tell anybody they are wrong and Mel Kiper is in our crosshairs right now after he released his updated 2023 NFL Draft Big Board. Here, we grade his latest update and offer up our 2023 NFL Draft Big Board.

Mel Kiper’s Big Board

1. Jalen Carter | DL | Georgia | Grade: D

Carter has been very good since coming back from his injury this season. He has three sacks in five games since he returned and he is a handful. However, putting him atop the big board is not something that we would be doing right now.

He is arguably not even the best defensive player in the draft. Horrible start for Mel Kiper and ‘several NFL scouts’.

Our pick: Bryce Young | QB | Alabama

2. Will Anderson | DE | Alabama | Grade: A

Kiper has got Will Anderson in the correct spot, but he has gone the wrong way about getting there. Anderson is who we believe is the best defensive player in the draft.

He lives in the backfield. Last season he recorded 17.5 sacks and he has 56 tackles for a loss in his last two seasons. Anderson can play at linebacker or on the edge. He is destined to be as big a star in the professional game as he was in college football.

Our pick: Will Anderson | DE | Alabama

3. Will Levis | QB | Kentucky | Grade: F

Alright, somebody give me the good stuff that Mel Kiper has been smoking. Will Levis is a talented quarterback, but he is not the most talented quarterback in this group this year, nor is he the second best quarterback in this group. If Kiper is not doing this for clout, send him to the asylum immediately.

Sure, some NFL suits are saying he is the most pro ready QB in the draft. But are they willing to risk their career on somebody with 19:10 touchdown to interception ratio and a middle of the pack QBR when far more accurate gunslingers are available? Go for it. Let’s see how that works out for you.

Our pick: Jalen Carter | DE | Georgia

4. Bryce Young | QB | Alabama | Grade: F

We are not really sure how to grade this. If Young is there at four in the actual draft, then the pick is an A+. However, we are grading this based on Mel Kiper’s thoughts, and if he thinks this is the correct order of talent, he is failing badly.

Young was a Heisman winner last year and has a 74:12 touchdown ratio over the last two years, but sure, let’s rank Will Levis above him because he’s a bit bigger. Young is probably the most talented player in the draft and he should not be there at four.

Our pick: CJ Stroud | QB | Ohio State

5. Jaxon Smith-Njigba | WR | Ohio State | Grade: D

The plan here was to do the top ten of Kiper’s 2023 NFL Draft Big Board, but I am shaking my head so much at these picks that it could possibly fall off, so this has to be the last one.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is massively talented. He played his heart out last year despite being on a team with two NFL wide receivers in Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave. Unfortunately, this year, Smith-Njigba has missed most of the season with injury.

There are plenty of other offensive and defensive players that should be at five before him. We have him at 14 and we thought that was high. Fellow wide receiver Quentin Johnson should almost certainly be ranked ahead of him and USC WR Jordan Addison is close.

The only reason this pick hasn’t been graded F is because we are big fans of Smith-Njigba and he was our sneaky pick for the Heisman Trophy this year.

Our pick: Myles Murphy | DE | Clemson

Atlanta Hawks Guard Dejounte Murray Out At Least Two Weeks - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray will miss the next two weeks due to an ankle sprain he suffered in last night’s game against the New York Knicks.

He only played 4 minutes of the game as he sustained the injury in the first quarter. He fell on Knicks forward RJ Barrett’s shoe and it looked like he rolled his ankle. Murray was then  ruled out shortly after the injury.

https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/fetch/w_2000,h_2000,c_fit/https%3A%2F%2Fsoaringdownsouth.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fimagn-images%2F2017%2F07%2F19347489.jpeg

Murray has been one of the best and most consistent players for the Hawks this season. He is building off of an All-Star season he had with the San Antonio Spurs. This season, Murray has averaged 20.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game. He is also a menace on the defensive end. Murray has averaged 1.8 steals per game as a result.

The Hawks will miss him greatly. They are already without two other starters in John Collins and DeAndre Hunter. Collins is out with an ankle sprain of his own and Hunter is out with a hip injury.

With a record of 13-12, the Hawks still sit atop the Southeast division in the Eastern Conference. It looks like their only competition would be both the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards. both teams could easily go on a hot streak and usurp the first place spot from the Hawks for the time being.

https://cdn.nba.com/manage/2022/12/GettyImages-1245189260-1568x882.jpg

When healthy, this Atlanta Hawks team can be dangerous both offensively and defensively. The addition of Murray has helped this defense to become more improved over the course of the season. He has been a very good back-court pairing with the offensive oriented Trae Young. Hopefully the Hawks can just be good enough before they can get fully healthy again.

The Hawks are favored at +100 to win the Southeast Division according to NBA betting sites. It is too early to tell, however, if losing Murray will impact these odds in the coming weeks.

Tennessee Titans Caleb Farley Out Rest Of Season - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tennessee Titans corner-back Caleb Farley will miss the rest if the 2022 season due to a back injury.

Farley was their 2021 first round pick and was originally dealing with a herniated disc in his back. This lead to him getting surgery and will ultimately miss the rest of this year. He is expected, however, to be ready for the start of the off-season program in 2023.

https://static01.nyt.com/images/2022/09/01/sports/01nfl-farley-3/merlin_196521615_a4f2eadc-f078-4232-b572-46e8e356a911-mobileMasterAt3x.jpg

This is another tough blow on a defense that has given up more yards to wide receivers in the NFL. Losing another corner does not bode well for the Titans. Tennessee does have a good run defense, but the secondary has been the problem for their defense.

Farley came out of Virginia Tech and had injury concerns with his back coming into his rookie season. He only played 3 games in his rookie season. It looked like he would bounce back and be healthy in his second season. However, he only played in 9 games this season and started only one of them.

https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/JUnpjCzfDZXklvhu1OV4wXSzRlQ=/0x0:2277x3253/1200x800/filters:focal(827x294:1191x658)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/69094306/1178155906.0.jpg

Farley does have potential due to his high draft capital and due to his production in college. As a freshman Farley started every game for Virginia Tech and had 36 total tackles with 2 interceptions.

The Tennessee Titans are still leading the lackluster AFC South with a record of 7-5. The Titans will most likely keep going with what they have been doing all season. That is run the ball with Derrick Henry and try to run out the clock and pass when they have to.

Tennessee is the overall favorite to win the division at -1400 according to NFL betting sites. Losing Farley may not change these odds that much as he has not really played or made an impact this season.

Mississippi State RB Dillon Johnson Takes a Shot at Head Coach Mike Leach Before Entering Transfer Portal - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Transfer portal announcements tend to follow a bland, generic template. Thank you to the fans, teammates, and coaches; now is the right time to move on to the next chapter, etc. But when Mississippi State running back Dillon Johnson made his announcement on Wednesday, it was a bit more chaotic and spicy. Johnson took a shot at Bulldogs’ eccentric head coach Mike Leach on the way out.

Coach Leach Glad to See ‘Not Tough’ RB Leave?

Dillon Johnson wasn’t mincing his words on Wednesday when he announced he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. Apparently his Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach had said that Johnson wasn’t tough and he was glad that he was leaving.

Johnson wanted the world to know and when he announced he was entering the portal on Twitter, he made sure to get his shot in.

It all started out very civil and generic, you know, the usual boring transfer portal spiel.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for me the opportunity to showcase my talents at a college level,” Johnson said via a Twitter statement. “Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends for the endless love and support they have shown me throughout this season.”

It is all going very well so far.

“To Mississippi State University, my teammates, trainers, and amazing fans, it has been an honor to participate in this program with you all,” Johnson continued. “Together, you guys have helped me build my character and skill’s [sic] tremendously.”

Awww, excellent.

“With that being said, since I am not very tough and [Coach] Leach is glad I am leaving, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with the hopes of finding a more fit playing environment,” Johnson said.

Where are the eyes emoji? That may be the greatest plot twist we have ever seen. It was all going so well before, OUT OF NOWHERE, it’s Dillon Johnson with a college football announcement version of an RKO.

That is one way to burn a bridge, I guess. It remains to be seen if Coach Leach will kick out of the attempted pin as we await his response.

Atlanta Falcons Make A Much Needed QB Change - originally posted on Sportslens.com

The Atlanta Falcons have decided to bench starting quarterback Marcus Mariota in favor of rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder.

With Atlanta sitting with a record of 5-8, this move makes sense to a team not really pushing for the playoffs. Even though they are second in the division, the Falcons are looking to the future to see what they have in Desmond Ridder.

https://dbukjj6eu5tsf.cloudfront.net/sidearm.sites/gobearcats.com/images/2021/1/1/img_15384782.jpg

Ridder was a third round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. He has had plenty of success at the college level leading Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff last season.

Marcus Mariota has not been bad when playing the quarterback position for the Atlanta Falcons, but he has not been good either. Mariota’s accuracy down the field is what makes this offense somewhat one dimensional. Even though it has been working to some degree, the Falcons record does not show for it. Mariota only completed 61.3% of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

https://thedraftnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/USATSI_18939669_168386526_lowres.jpg

The Falcons are currently on their bye week. This is a good time to further ingratiate Ridder into the offense and to build up chemistry with his offensive weapons. It remains to be seen if the offense will change from a run-heavy approach. A more balanced offense with a rookie QB may be best to see what they have.

Ridder will not have his allotment of weapons when he starts, however. It’s too bad that Atlanta will be without star tight end Kyle Pitts for the rest of the season. This could mean good things for rookie wide receiver Drake London. He has not had as much production since the beginning of the season.

The Atlanta Falcons are still +1000 to win the NFC South according to NFL betting sites. Maybe Ridder and the Falcons can catch up to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It his highly unlikely, however, given his experience level.

Tyson Fury Wants To See Deontay Wilder and Joe Joyce Fight Next - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Fresh off the back of yet another victory at the weekend, Tyson Fury has voiced his opinion on the current heavyweight landscape and where the challengers sit. ‘The Gypsy King’ believes that a fight between fellow Brit, Joe Joyce, and former foe, Deontay Wilder, would be a sensational fight to make.

Gypsy King Calls For Wilder vs Joyce

After boxing Derek Chisora this past weekend for the third time, winning via 10th Round stoppage, Tyson Fury wants to see some of his fellow heavyweights throw down against each other.

Fury is never one to hold his breath or keep his opinions to himself, and he has once again been expressing his views about the heavyweight division, who should fight who next and what the best fights to make are.

The most recent fight that the WBC World Heavyweight Champion has mentioned is a fight between Deontay Wilder and Joe Joyce. Fury has shared the ring with Wilder on three occasions, beating him twice after controversially drawing with the big American the first time.

The unbeaten Englishman hasn’t yet shared a ring with Joyce professionally, but has shared plenty of rounds in sparring over the years with the ‘Juggernaut’. Fury believes a fight between the pair would be an absolute barnstormer and is a great fight to make.

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3

‘The Bronze Bomber’ would likely be a heavy favorite with the best offshore betting sites in a fight with Joyce, purely due to his sheer punching power and ferocious knockout ratio.

The 34-year-old has this to say in his Chisora post-fight press conference on a potential fight between Joyce and Wilder, if it happens next year:

“I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who can take Deontay Wilder’s power.

“Joyce is a juggernaut. That’s a fight I’d love to see. If I fight Usyk, maybe Joyce can fight Wilder. Who here wouldn’t want to see that?

“Who wouldn’t want to see the world’s toughest man take on the world’s biggest puncher? That would be fantastic.”

It looks like Fury is set to fight Oleksandr Usyk for all four heavyweight world title belts in 2023. That is a fight that boxing fans are desperate to see, so lets hope it gets over the line and is made as soon as possible.

Fury looks like the slight favorite with betting apps in the early market, but we all know how good Usyk is after his two victories over Britain’s Anthony Joshua.

In the meantime, the likes of Joyce vs Wilder and Joshua vs Whyte are some brilliant fights to see who could be next in line for the eventual winner between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

With bowl season bearing down upon us, it might be a good time to remember that it is new for a lot of players and coaches, but some of them have been here and done it all before. A few of them have done it many times over. There are currently five active college football head coaches with double-digit bowl wins under their belt. Here, we take you through the active coaches with the most bowl wins.

T3. Dabo Swinney (Clemson) – 11 Bowl Wins

Dabo Swinney has turned Clemson into a powerhouse over the last decade or so. Dabo has been at Clemson for 15 years and they have made it to a bowl game every season.

Since 2011, the Tigers have won at least 10 games every season. Swinney has led the team to two National Championships and played in four College Football Playoff Championship Games.

His first bowl game victory came in 2009 where he won the Music City Bowl and it’s been an upward trajectory ever since for Dabo and Clemson.

Clemson faces Tennessee in the Orange Bowl on December 30.

T3. Kyle Whittingham (Utah) – 11 Bowl Wins

Kyle Whittingham has been at Utah for 19 years. In his first Bowl Game victory in 2004, he was a co-coach with Urban Meyer for the Fiesta Bowl. Whittingham has won ten more bowl games on his own as head coach.

Whittingham was victorious in his first six bowl games in consecutive years, and won seven of his first eight bowl games. However, his biggest bowl win probably came with the 2008 Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama.

This year, Utah faces Penn State in the Rose Bowl on January 2.

T3. Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) – 11 Bowl Wins

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is another coach with 11 bowl wins. Gundy has spent 18 years at OK State and has made a bowl game in every season bar his first with the program.

Gundy’s biggest bowl appearances were likely the Sugar Bowl in 2015 in which his team was defeated by Ole Miss and the 2013 Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri.

Victorious in five of his last six bowl games, it doesn’t seem as if Gundy has trouble pumping up his teams for smaller bowl games.

Oklahoma State plays Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on December 27.

2. Mack Brown (North Carolina) – 14 Bowl Wins

Mack Brown returned to head coaching in 2019. He returned to the school where he won his first bowl game, North Carolina. Brown won the Peach Bowl back in 1992, his fifth year as the Tar Heels head coach.

Brown has been in the head coaching game for 33 years and won a National Championship with Texas in 2005 after a crazy last-gasp win in the Rose Bowl courtesy of Vince Young.

He also played in a BCS Championship Game in 2009, where his Texas team came up short against Alabama.

Brown has won two Cotton Bowls and two Rose Bowls to go along with his National Championship.

His North Carolina team face off against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl on December 28.

1. Nick Saban (Alabama) – 18 Bowl Wins

It will come as no surprise to any college football fans that Nick Saban is the active coach with the most bowl wins. Saban has 18 bowl wins in his prestigious career so far.

With 27 years in a head coaching capacity, and 16 years at arguably the most successful sports team in North America during that span, Saban was always going to rack up numbers.

Saban’s first bowl game appearance came way back in 1995, a loss in the Independence Bowl. He lost his first three appearances in bowl games when he was the Michigan State head coach.

After a move to LSU for the 2000 season, Saban started to dominate. He won two Sugar Bowls and a Peach Bowl in his five seasons with the Tigers before moving to Alabama.

His career at Bama includes six National Championships. He is 15-6 at his time in bowl games with the Crimson Tide.

Even though the Tide won’t play in the College Football Championship this year, they will face Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

2021 Alabama Five-Star Recruit OT Tommy Brockermeyer Joins Four Other Crimson Tide OL in NCAA Transfer Portal - originally posted on Sportslens.com

One of the top recruits in last year’s high school class has entered the NCAA transfer portal along with several of his college football teammates. Alabama’s Tommy Brockermeyer and four other linemen from the Tide announced they were entering the portal on Tuesday. Brockermeyer was the second ranked player in ESPN’s high school recruiting rankings last year. He joins Javion Cohen, Amari Kight, Damieon George, and Tanner Bowles in the portal.

Five-Star lineman moving on from Tuscaloosa

The top rated tackle in the country out of high school last year will transfer from Alabama after he entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. Offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer appeared in just two games for the Tide in 2022, retaining his redshirt.

Brockermeyer’s twin brother, James seems likely to remain at Alabama.

The 6-foot-5 inch, 305 lbs freshman from Fort Worth, Texas was highly recruited in high school. He received 25 offers from schools including Georgia, Clemson, and Michigan. Ultimately, Brockermeyer committed to Alabama with his twin brother, but it seems that move has not quite worked out how he would have hoped.

Brockermeyer is sure to be a hot commodity in the portal, and won’t lack interest from high-profile schools. However, a potential destination for Brockermeyer could be Texas.

Brockermeyer’s father, Blake was an All-American tackle for the Longhorns. Additionally, Tommy’s brother, Luke is currently the starting middle linebacker at Texas. That Texas lineage runs strong, but whether it will be enough to lure another Brockermeyer to their midst remains to be seen.

Four other linemen also set to leave

As well as losing Brockermeyer, the Tide are also set to lose four other linemen. Starting LG Javion Cohen, backup center Tanner Bowles and backup tackles Amari Kight and Damieon George will also be entering the portal.

As of Tuesday, Alabama had 12 players enter the transfer portal.

It’s the season of buyouts in the sporting industry. With recent reports suggesting that Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool have been put up for sale, we at Spots Lens decided to look at the biggest club takeovers in the sporting world. So far, the $5.4 billion takeover of Premier League club Chelsea this year tops the list.

8 out of 10 most significant purchases happened in the US

Ten Biggest Buyouts In Sports[Report]
Source: Forbes

As per the Forbes’ Report on most valuable sports teams, Chelsea’s $5.4 billion takeover by a joint-consortium earlier this year is the biggest in sporting history. Prior to the sale of the London-based Premier League side, LA-based NBA side LA Lakers had held the honor for approximately a year. The Lakers’ $5 billion deal in 2021 currently sits in the second spot. Though it was a partial sale but the franchise was valued at $5 billion.

NFL side Denver Broncos’ recent acquisition by the Walton-Penner family for $4.5 billion is the third-highest in history. Additionally, this sale is also the highest amount paid for an NFL side.

Another NBA side takes the fourth spot, the Brooklyn Nets. Joseph Tsai acquired the New York-based side at a valuation of $3.2 billion in 2019. The $2.275 billion purchase of NFL side Carolina Panthers by David Tepper in 2018 is the fifth biggest takeover currently. It was a record purchase in the sporting industry at the time, much like the purchase of the Nets a year later.

LA Dodgers is the only MLB team to feature among the ten biggest sporting purchases. Guggenheim Baseball Management purchased the Los Angeles-based baseball team for $2 billion in 2012.

Another LA-based franchise in LA Clippers, is the next team on the list. Steve Ballmer bought the NBA side for $2 billion in 2014.

The US-based Glazer family bought Premier League giants Manchester United for $1.4 billion in 2005. United has been put on sale by the Glazers, and it is expected that any potential deal will be the biggest in sporting history.

The last two spots are occupied by NFL sides Buffalo Bills ($1.4 billion) and Miami Clippers ($1.1 billion).

The sale of Chelsea might be the biggest in sports, but only two football clubs feature among the biggest ten takeovers in sports.

The list is dominated by US-based clubs/franchises, with eight US-based takeovers making the list.

Four of ten biggest sales took place in NFL

Ten Biggest Buyouts In Sports[Report]

NFL (or the National Football League) has four teams that feature in the list – Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins.

The NBA follows it with three teams – LA Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, and LA Clippers.

As stated above, Chelsea and Manchester United are the only football/soccer clubs to feature. They are also the only sides not to be based in the US.

Regarding the geographical locations of clubs, it appears that Los Angeles-based sides are in huge demand with investors. Three LA-based sides feature on our list, while no other city has more than one representation.

There has been a massive influx of players into the NCAA transfer portal so far this season. Over 600 FBS players are currently in the portal and there is a lot of talent for college football teams to pore over. Included are some high-profile quarterbacks and here we take a quick look at the top five QBs in the transfer portal today.

5. Brennan Armstrong | Virginia Cavaliers

There was a lot of debate between the people of the office about the fifth best QB on this list. Ultimately, I get the final word, so Brennan Armstrong managed to win the day.

The UVA QB has a ton of experience having appeared in 38 games for Virginia over the past five seasons. He has thrown for 9,034 yards and 58 touchdowns in his career. His last season was not as successful as previous years throwing a touchdown to interception ratio of 7:12.

Armstrong is able to use his legs effectively, having run for 20 career touchdowns. He will be looking for a home that can productively use his dual threat skill set.

4. DJ Uiagalelei | Clemson

Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei has struggled this season and has finally lost his job to the talented Cade Klubnik. That was the catalyst for DJ to enter the transfer portal and bring his time at Clemson to an end.

Out of high school, Uiagalelei had 30 offers including from big SEC schools Alabama and Georgia. However, his time at Clemson has been underwhelming. Despite being one of the preseason favorites with sportsbooks for the CFP Championship, they failed to make they playoffs.

His QBR over his three years with the program is a poor 125.1. But he could draw attention from plenty of schools given his perceived ceiling.

3. Hudson Card | Texas

Hudson Card spent most of this season behind Longhorns freshman QB Quinn Ewers. With Ewers looking like the future of the program, Card has chosen to seek greener pastures.

In his three starts this year, the redshirt sophomore threw for 741 yards and six touchdowns. He did occasionally show the ability to get on his bike when pressured too.

Card was ESPN’s second ranked quarterback in the high school recruiting class of 2020. This could be a case of a quarterback who just needs a chance to settle into an offense for his ceiling to shine through.

Card should not be short of suitors and it will be interesting to see the trajectory of his career from this point on.

2. Devin Leary | North Carolina State

It could be argued that NC State quarterback Devin Leary should be atop this list, but once again, I make the calls around here and this Wolfpack QB is not making it to the top of one of my lists.

Leary has been the starter at NC State for the past four seasons. His season came to a premature halt this year when he tore his pectoral six games into the year.

He has thrown for 6,807 and 62 touchdowns with just 16 picks in his career as the Wolfpack signal caller. NC State will look to MJ Morris to fill the void that Leary’s departure will leave.

Leary has one year of eligibility left and will likely be a hot commodity pursued by some top schools.

1. Spencer Sanders | Oklahoma State

The best quarterback in the transfer portal according to us (me) here at Sports Lens is OK State QB Spencer Sanders. Sanders is probably the most dangerous rushing QB in the portal with the possible exception of Jeff Sims of Georgia Tech.

He has thrown for over 9,500 yards and has 67 passing touchdowns for the Cowboys. He also has nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 18 rushing yards over his four years at Oklahoma State.

There is no doubt that Sanders will be attracting attention from several high-profile high schools as a highly experienced starter with solid enough stats through the air and on the ground.

We are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for these five QBs and the rest of the student-athletes in the transfer portal.

LSU WR Kayshon Boutte Will NOT Enter 2023 NFL Draft and Will Return for Next Season - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Despite missing out on a College Football Playoff place, the LSU Tigers received some good news on Monday. Star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte has announced his intention to forego the 2023 NFL Draft and return to the program for at least another season. Boutte, who struggled at the start of the year, found some form towards the end of the season and is widely regarded as one of the best wide receivers in college football.

Boutte wants National Championship for LSU

While LSU may be licking their wounds after the defeat to the sportsbooks‘ favorites for the College Football Playoff National Championship, Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, there is cause for optimism for next season. Star wide receiver, Kayshon Boutte, who was widely projected as a first round pick in the NFL Draft, will return for his senior year.

“LSU has been nothing but amazing to me,” Boutte said in statement on Twitter. “My growth under the new staff has helped me to reach new levels. While we did not achieve the overall goal, we still fought and produced results that will be a stepping stone for future success.

“It is important to follow your dreams and live with the results. While some stories will end here, mine will not. Let’s lock in and focus on the main goal of any LSU Tiger: Winning a national championship.”

It is a far cry from early in the season when Boutte removed all mentions of LSU from his social media sparking rumors of a transfer. He seemed to find his focus after that episode and his season culminated with six catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in the championship loss to Georgia.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly will be happy to welcome Boutte back. Boutte will rejoin a talented receiver corps who will also welcome two more four-star wide receiver recruits when Shelton Sampson Jr., and Jalen Brown arrive on campus.

Baker Mayfield Claimed By The Los Angeles Rams - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Free agent quarterback Baker Mayfield has been claimed by the Los Angeles Rams after being released by the Carolina Panthers.

This comes as just a low risk move as the Rams are now further out of playoff contention. Los Angeles placed Matthew Stafford on Injured Reserve and is out for the rest of the season. Adding Baker Mayfield is just more added depth at the quarterback position.

https://fox8.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2022/09/278faeebfdfd42169aaa18a4e876066e.jpg?w=2560&h=1440&crop=1

By claiming Mayfield, the Rams will now pay the remaining $1.35 million on his contract. It seemed like other teams like the San Fransisco 49ers who have just lost Jimmy Garoppolo, would take a shot on the former number one overall pick. They ultimately did not and also did not put a claim in for Mayfield.

One can argue Baker Mayfield may be the best quarterback the Rams have right now. Backup quarterback John Wolford and Bryce Perkins have not shown that they could be a starting quarterback in the NFL. In the past, Mayfield has shown that. It would not be surprising if he gets the start on Thursday Night Football against the Las Vegas Raiders.

https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_editorial_landscape_12_desktop/rams/o5nxd8jvtvpv3niqffuy

This has been a lost season for the Los Angeles Rams. Their team has been riddled by injuries on the offense and defensive sides of the ball. Players like Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, a few starting offensive lineman, and Aaron Donald have all missed a significant amount of time. However, they are all not expected to return this season given that they sit last in the NFC West with a record of 3-9.

The future for Los Angeles is kind of murky as they do not have their first round pick this year. Maybe this is just an outlier of a season, and they can be more competitive next season if everyone is healthy.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a sprained PCL in Sunday’s win against the Denver Broncos.

Jackson only played 11 snaps before exiting with the knee injury. He is expected to miss at least 1-3 weeks. This is good news with the severity of the injury initially in doubt. Head Coach John Harbaugh felt good about Jackson’s status for the rest of the season. He did say, however, that Jackson is unlikely to play this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/WbLBs7S54ar60NoUlNv3rj6AAgM=/0x0:2999x1999/1200x800/filters:focal(1261x761:1739x1239)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/71718175/1446744363.0.jpg

Jackson has had an up and down season so far. He’s had his worst completion percentage since his rookie year and simply does not have the weapons to improve those numbers.

Other than tight end Mark Andrews, there is no other wide receiver that has any impact ever since they traded Marquise Brown away. Baltimore was hoping for Rashod Bateman to take that second year. Unfortunately, has been out with injury for the rest of the season.

The Baltimore Ravens will now start Tyler Huntley at quarterback. He has been serviceable whenever he has stepped in wake of a Lamar Jackson injury. One could argue that him and Jackson are the same type of quarterback, so this QB change should not be the problem.

https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/mdqwMf8A0UmLHSdEPNo-_j6Ad9M=/0x0:3315x2210/1200x800/filters:focal(1426x466:1956x996)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/70316318/1359924722.0.jpg

Huntley has shown his dual threat success in the past. Huntley started 4 games for Baltimore in 2021. He completed 64.9% of his passes with 3 touchdowns to 4 interceptions. Not great but not terrible either.

The Ravens can rely on their defense which has gotten better over the past couple of weeks and their record shows that. Baltimore currently sits first in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals narrowly behind.

Both the Bengals and Ravens are -115 to win the division according to NFL betting sites. This injury to Lamar Jackson might turn the tide over to the Bengals to win this division.

NFL Playoff Scenarios For Week 14 - originally posted on Sportslens.com

The NFL playoffs are almost a month away, and there are a few playoff scenarios that could happen.

The Minnesota Vikings can clinch the NFC North with a win over the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings have been one of the more surprising teams this season. With a record of 10-2, Minnesota is by far the best team in this lowly NFC North. The Detroit Lions have been better as of late. That will be put to the test when they face each other this Sunday.

https://images.foxtv.com/static.fox9.com/www.fox9.com/content/uploads/2022/11/1280/720/vikings-kirk-cousins.jpg?ve=1&tl=1

The Vikings playoff hopes rely of Kirk Cousins being consistent in big games. Historically, Cousins does not play well in prime time games. He did show he can be somewhat competent when he played the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving Night. There is hope for the Vikings.

The Kansas City Chiefs can clinch the AFC West with a win over the Denver Broncos and a Los Angeles Chargers loss.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been a mainstay in the NFL playoff hunt ever since quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the starter in 2018. When a team is being led by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, you are bound to win a lot of games.

https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/70/2018/10/gettyimages-10443686261.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1

The AFC West was seen to be a really competitive division. That, however, was not the case. The Los Angeles Chargers are theoretically still in the mix for the playoffs, but the division is right into Kansas City’s grasp. They are to be Super Bowl contenders, yet again when the regular season ends.

Philadelphia Eagles can clinch the NFC East with a win over the New York Giants.

The Philadelphia Eagles are seen to be the best team in the NFL record wise. With a record of 11-1, Philadelphia has propelled themselves in the running for the number one seed in the NFC. The only realistic competition left on their regular season schedule are the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16.

https://static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2022/12/jalen-hurts.jpg

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has proven the doubters wrong. With weapons like AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith and a stout defense, they are clear favorites in the NFC at this current moment.

Each of these teams are all heavily favored to win their divisions according to NFL betting sites. Maybe all of these playoff scenarios will come to fruition on Sunday.

Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud, Max Duggan & Stetson Bennett Named 2022 Heisman Trophy Finalists - originally posted on Sportslens.com

With 2022 Heisman Trophy voting closing on Monday, the finalists for the Stiff Arm Trophy were announced. This year it is four quarterbacks in the running to take home the biggest individual award in college football when it’s announced on Saturday. USC QB Caleb Williams is the big favorite with the sportsbooks to take home the trophy. Georgia QB Stetson Bennett, Ohio State QB CJ Stroud, and TCU QB Max Duggan are the others heading to New York for the ceremony. Unlike Williams, they will all be appearing in this year’s College Football Playoff.

Final four heading to New York

The final four candidates for the Heisman Trophy were announced on Monday and four quarterbacks will be heading to New York for the ceremony. Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud, Max Duggan, and Stetson Bennett led their team to successful seasons from under center.

The fact that voters left the likes of Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker out, did not sit well with some critics. Some think that quarterbacks of the best teams are simply getting in based on team performance and it is devaluing an individual award. But that won’t stop the ceremony and should not take away from the four finalists who have all had good seasons in their own right.

How do the finalists’ stats stack up?

Player Cmp Atts Yds TDs Ints QBR Rush Atts Rush Yds Rush TDs
Caleb Williams 296 448 4075 37 4 167.9 109 372 10
CJ Stroud 235 355 3340 37 6 176.2 35 74 0
Max Duggan 239 368 3321 30 4 165.5 112 404 6
Stetson Bennett 269 396 3425 20 6 154.2 47 184 7

When we look at that statistics of the four finalists, it does appear the Caleb Williams is a big favorite for good reason. He has thrown for more yards and rushed for more touchdowns than his fellow finalists. He is also tied with one other for most passing touchdowns and least interceptions.

It could be argued that Williams had to do more because the USC defense kept opponents in games, but his stats are convincingly above the rest of the finalists. He played ridiculous football down the stretch. At one point he accounted for five total touchdowns in four straight games.

While USC won’t be in the College Football Playoff, the other three will. Stetson Bennett’s numbers don’t quite stack up with the others in the running, but he has led his Georgia team to an unbeaten season which sees them ranked number one in college football.

Max Duggan has at times, single-handedly dragged TCU to victories this season, and CJ Stroud has been super efficient but struggled in the biggest game of the year. However, both he and Duggan are definitely worthy of their spot in the final, but will likely ultimately come up just short of winning.

Best player in the country

Despite the outcry from the critics, the best player in college football this year will likely win the Heisman. Williams is the deserving odds on favorites and very likely winner of the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

The Heisman Trophy Award Ceremony can be viewed on ESPN at 8 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Energy and sports drinks are set to become a $166bn worth industry in 2022, with revenues growing by a CAGR of 4.5% year-over-year. Although the two drinks are bought by consumers worldwide, most revenues will come from only one country.

According to data presented by Sports Lens, consumers from the United States are expected to generate $96.7bn or nearly 60% of global sports and energy drink revenues this year.

The World`s Largest Sports and Energy Drinks Consumers

Sports and energy drinks revenues continued rising this year, despite weak consumer spending and surging prices of all food and beverage categories.

According to a Statista survey, last year, the market hit $159.1bn in revenue, up from $136.2bn in 2020, rising by 16.8% year-over-year. This year the annual revenue growth rate slowed down to 4.5% but is expected to triple and reach almost 13% in 2023.

Also, the revenue is forecast to hit nearly $188bn next year, up from $166.3bn in 2022. As the world`s largest consumer of sports and energy drinks, the United States is expected to generate 58% of that value.

Statista data show Americans will spend more than $96bn on sports and energy drinks this year, six times more than Chinese and Japanese consumers combined. As the world`s second-largest sports and energy drinks market, China is expected to see over $9bn in revenue this year, almost 55% more than third-ranked Japan. Indonesia and Spain round the top five list, with $4.9bn and $4.6bn in revenue in 2022, respectively.

Revenues Grow while Average Consumption Drops

According to Statista, the average revenue per capita of the global energy and sports drinks market amounted to $21.85 in 2022, up from $21.1 last year. However, Statista estimates this figure will reach $27.5 in the next three years.

Statistics show the average price per unit has increased by 7% since last year, from $6.33 to $6.79. This figure is expected to grow by another 15% and reach $7.82 in 2025.

However, while revenue and price grew, the average consumption dropped. According to Statista, the global per capita consumption of energy and sports drinks amounted to 3.22 liters in 2022, down from 3.22 liters a year ago. Still, Statista expects this figure to reach 3.51 liters in the next three years.

Japan vs Croatia Match Betting

Monday, December 5th 2022 Odds Sportsbook
Japan 3.85 lucky block dark 1
Draw 3.35 lucky block dark 1
Croatia
2.08 lucky block dark 1

Japan surprised many to make it to the ‘last 16’ of the 2022 World Cup, but they’ve also impressed in beating football heavyweights Germany and Spain (both 2-1) to progress out of the group stages and their prize is a clash with Croatia for a place in the quarter-finals.

Japan and Croatia have met just three times in the past and it could not be more even – with a win each and a draw.

They last played though back in 2006, which was also at the World Cup, and that ended in a 0-0 draw in the group stages.

Tight Match Betting Market

The 90 minutes match betting favours Croatia @ 2.08 with Lucky Block, with the Draw 3.35 and Japan @ 3.85, while it’s 2.50 for Japan to just win the game, or 1.54 Croatia if you think the fixture might need extra-time or penalties.

Croatia Unbeaten In Last 9 Matches

Japan faces a Croatia side that are 9 games unbeaten and have lost only one of their last 19. Croatia have also only conceded three goals in their last 8 matches, so it’s fair to say they don’t let many goals in. In fact, two of their last three games ended 0-0 too!

If you think Croatia won’t let in a goal here, then you can back Japan to not score at 2.40 with Lucky Block.

Who Are The Top Scorers In The Sides?

Looking at the scoring markets, then Japan’s Takumi Minamino, who plays  for Monaco, is their top scorer in the squad with 17 International goals. He’s on offer at 5.50 with Lucky Block to score.

Croatia’s Ivan Perisic is their main man in front of goal, with 32 International goals from 118 caps – the Tottenham man is 4.00 to score 1+ goal in the game, or 25.00 to get 2+ goals with Lucky Block.

Croatia Don’t Let Many Goals In

However, our Japan vs Croatia prediction on the game based on our stats is for both teams NOT to score. This is on offer @ 1.76 with Lucky Block and is a bet that’s paid out in 63% of Croatia’s last 8 matches, plus also in 67% of Japan’s last 12 fixtures.

With Croatia also having drawn their last two games 0-0 and only letting in 3 goals from their last 8 matches, then we can expect the Europeans to make it hard for Japan to score.

BEST BET: BOTH TEAMS ‘NOT’ TO SCORE @ 1.76 with Lucky Block

Brazil vs South Korea Match Betting

Monday, December 5th 2022 Odds Sportsbook
BRAZIL 1.27 lucky block dark 1
Draw 6.2 lucky block dark 1
SOUTH KOREA
12.0 lucky block dark 1

Brazil and South Korea have met 7 times in the past and it’s Brazil that hold a 6-1 lead in the head-to-heads.

They last met only back in June and that ended in a comfortable 5-1 win for Brazil so the South American side will be all the rage in the betting to back up that result again today.

Brazil, will, however, need to bounce back from a last group game loss to Cameroon and are taking on a South Korea side that have lost only one of their last 8 games and scored 2+ goals in 7 of their last 8 too.

Overall, it’s a game Brazil will be expected to win well and progress into the quarter-finals, but our standout stat tip on the game is for Tottenham’s Richarlison to get on the scoresheet for Brazil again. He’s netted in 6 of Brazil’s last 8 games and also scored the last time these nations met in June.

Richarlison is on offer at 2.30 with Lucky Block to get a goal, or if you want a bit more value, then what about snapping up the 7.00 on the Brazilian hitman getting 2+ goals in the game?

See below some more key Brazil vs South Korea match stats that might point you in the direction of some more bets for the big World Cup game today.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 Golden Boot race is on, with some of the world’s best goal-scorers taking their talents to the biggest stage. While France’s Kylian Mbappe leads the way in the race as the top scorer in the 2022 World Cup, two other countries dominate when it comes to total World Cup goals.

According to data presented by Sports Lens, Brazil and Germany have the highest number of goals scored at FIFA World Cups, 231 and 230, respectively.

Brazil Scored More Goals than England and France Combined

Since 1930, more than 2,600 goals have been scored in 22 World Cup tournaments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year, and Brazilian and German players scored nearly one-fifth of them.

According to Statista data, Brazil scored the highest number of goals at FIFA World Cups, 231 as of this week. That is only one more than the second-ranked Germany, whose players have scored 230 goals. But Germany’s Miroslav Klose still holds the record among players, with 16 goals scored over four World Cups.

Argentina, which stands high among the bookmakers’ favorites this year, has ranked third on the list with 142 goals. Italy follows with 128 goals, respectively.

The 2018 champion, France, is looking to become the first nation to successfully defend the title since Brazil managed to do so in 1962, but the country ranked fifth on the list of World Cup’s top-scoring nations. So far, French football players have scored 128 goals, including the ones seen at the matches played in Qatar.

While England hopes to carry the momentum built in the 2020 Euros into another major tournament, it still needs to be added to the top five countries on this list. Statistics show England’s players scored 99 goals at World Cup matches, ranking seventh on the list and one spot below Spain.

The Statista data showed that Brazilian national team players scored more goals than England and France combined.

Top-Scoring Nation the Favourite to Win the 2022 World Cup

Besides leading the list of top-scoring World Cup nations, Brazil was also given the highest chance of winning the 2022 World Cup. According to a TransferMarkt survey conducted ahead of the tournament, the country was given an estimated probability of 15.8% to become the 2022 champion, which would be their sixth World Cup win.

The team with the second-highest chance was Argentina, with 12.6%, and France followed closely with a 12.2% chance. Spain, England, and Germany closed the top five list, with 9.1%, 8.7%, and 7.8% chance, respectively.
