The opening match at Euro 2016 kicks off at 20:00 BST this evening as hosts France entertain Romania at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

Before the action gets underway, the tournament will begin with an opening ceremony and we have the key details for you.

When is the Euro 2016 opening ceremony?

The Euro 2016 opening ceremony will begin at 19:00 BST, one hour before kick-off with David Guetta performing as part of a 30-minute show, including the official song for the tournament written by the 48-year-old, titled ‘This One’s For You’.

In all, more than 600 people will be involved in the opening ceremony, including volunteers from 63 countries.

This includes 150 can can dancers and the French Air Force performing the Patrouille de France before the national anthems are sang in front of an 80,000 sell out capacity.

Last night, Guetta performed in front of the Eiffel Tour as part of the pre-tournament ceremony streamed live on UEFA’s YouTube channel.  He had been unveiled as the musical ambassador for the tournament last year. Keep an eye out for the Euro 2016 mascot Super Victor as well.

In the UK, ITV will be broadcasting the opening ceremony.

After the opening ceremony, France versus Romania kicks off the tournament in the same stadium before three matches take place tomorrow.

England are one of those three in action tomorrow as they start their campaign at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, taking on Russia at 20:00 BST.
